I was just prescribed vesicare. Start at 5mg and boost to 10mg in two weeks. What kind of experinces have people had with this medication.

Hi chipmunk,

That was one of the first OAB meds I was given that seemed to have a change on symptoms. It helped me but it only helped for about a year and a half. It gave me really dry mouth and the worse side effect was it stopped me from sweating. Sad thing was I was so desperate for help I put up with the side effect for as long as I did.

I tried it for a short time - at the 10mg level but it made my bowels, not the world best performing, cease up completely. No good then and I gave up the tablets.

Ditto like Wheels5894. Worked a bit at 5mg; but 10mg was a shutdown of the bowels.

I should have pointed out that having MS and being wheelchair bound means the bowels are fairly difficult anyway. This drug made them stop!

My urologist prescribed this when I first started having leakage problems about four years ago. When I first took it, I felt nervous and jittery like I was on speed or something. The next morning I was constipated. But the worst thing was that I went out for a 15 mile bike ride, very early in the morning while it was still cool, and could hardly get through it. This is unacceptable since biking is my main form of exercise.

And, I might add, it didn't stop my dripping. I told the urologist I'd rather wet myself than use that stuff. We discussed other meds but he thought if I had that reaction to Vesicare I'd probably have the same reaction to other drugs, as they're really pretty much the same, just made by different manufacturers.

So in the summer I wear black biking shorts and just let them get wet (it hardly shows) and in the winter I wear a pullup and black sweat pants over it.

I'm on day five at this point. I've had some constipation. I've had some improvement. Leaking has decreased some. Frequency is about the same. I noticed today when I walked to the bathroom that my pulse shot up and stayed elevated for several minutes. I'm not sure if this is a fluke or related to the Meds. I haven't been very active lately, and have not done any physical activity since being placed on this med. I'm going to try to exercise this weekend and check to see if it repeats itself.

I am prescribed vesicare. I have to say at 5mg level it did very little to stop my wetting. Maybe a little help during the day but very little help for my bedwetting.

I think you have to be lucky for anything to stop overnight leaks! It's a much longer period that the gaps between bladder emptying during the day.

I have retention - partly due to MS and partly to the ileo-cytosplasty I have done 15 years ago. I typically can empty 4 times a day and the volumes can be 1ltr at a time without any leaks. A night, though, I end up leaking lots. I concluded Vesicare didn't really help and messed up my bowels so I just let the bladder drain at night.
