Has anyone here tried swimming with their incontinence? What type of protection do you wear?
My wife and boys like to go swimming but I'm not sure what to wear. And even though I've discussed this with my son I don't feel comfortable to actually be seen in nappies or change in front of him

There is one big question, is bowel incon an issue you deal with? If not, I would just go with it and not worry about it, pools have more then enough chlorine to deal with anything like that. There is a post by Don about swim diapers here http://www.incontinentsupport.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1071&hilit=pool hope that helps some, Puffy

If your incontinence is bowel, I can recommend the SoSecure fecal containment swim diaper. It fastens with very strong velcro wings.

To be most effective, it needs to be worn very snug, which makes putting it on a bit of a chore, but it works.

I have been swimming at my local Y for 12 years and do not use any type of protection. I do get in, swim, and then go directly to the showers and put a diaper on and I leave for the day.
While on vacation, I do use a swim diaper I got from LL Medico. As you swim, it's going to get saturated with pool water, but at lest it's going to catch any leaks still. You can lounge around for a short while, but as your swim trunks dry out, the swim diaper will leave a wet spot on your trucks as you sit. It never bothered me at all. Just use it and don't worry about it! .......Paul Martin

Greetings. I have recently lost about 35lbs over the past year. I started with a SOSecure swim diaper from Discovery Trekking in size XL as I weighed in at 221lbs. Not as healthy as I wanted to be. I have slowly dropped weight to 185 over the past 11 months. I bought a large over the summer and just purchased a medium today. April at discovery trekking knows me by name. The swim diaper they make is superior than anything I've tried. When worn correctly, I believe it outperforms all competition. It will hold bowel leaks no problem. It will also hold urine for a short while. Call April and she can help you get your size. It is undetectable under a swim suit. I wear mine at the Y and swim in the lap pool. I like to swim laps so I wear a speedo short style Lycra swim suit over the swim diaper. You can see the outline of the diaper but nobody says anything to me. I wear my bathing suit shorts to the pool side, get in and swim, then when I'm done, I just get out, put my shorts on and head for the showers. It's easy and nobody makes fun. I do prefer to wear the speedo short suit over the diaper at all times when swimming because it keeps everything secure. Then board shorts over that. It's still comfortable and gives me peace of mind. Just something that I found helps it work better. Happy swimming!

I found some swim diapers on eBay that iI was very pleased with. They kind of look like a cover but they have a sewn in pad in the center. With them on I have about 30-50 minutes to make in to the water to conceal anything that leaks through. This worked perfect for a beach trip we took last spring.
Another area I was pleasently surprised was a few months later we made a trip to a large water park. I had not gone because of not knowing exactly how to manage my incontinence for several trips and this particular trip, my 7 year old daughter begged me to go. I could not refuse. So I got there and put on my diaper and swim trunks and headed out. Needless to say I was super stressed about the long lines for the different attractions.
What I discovered was if I went straight to the wave pool and got myself wet from the waist down I would not have to worry about the leaks showing. What I would do was slightly pull open the diaper at the leg to drain out any trapped water. This did two things for me. It would create enough of a space to catch any pee and it would also rinse out any existing pee so there was no smell while waiting in any of the lines. The swim diaper worked way better then iI could have thought.
So, my suggestion would be find something and try it out. You may be supprised.

I like to get in hot tubs and natural hot pools. I am fecal and urnary incontent. I wear a swim diaper with my shorts over the top.It doesn't help for the urin, but for fecies works very well.
