I saw this thread on another site and thought it would be interesting to post here. So here it goes......

Besides incontinence, what other medical disabilities do you have? I have Bipolar Disorder, Asthma, Nocturnal Hypoxemia, Hypertension, and symptoms of IBS. All of my conditions are well controlled except for the chronic diarrhea that results from IBS. Its actually not IBS persay but GI distress as a side effect of my Lithium medication. My Bipolar medication makes me incontinent. It is a rare side effect. My psychiatrist says I'm her only patient exhibiting these severe side effects. Its tough...but I push through it. I try to stay postive and enjoy life despite my disabilities.

I too have Bipolar disorder as my primary mental illness.
I often wonder, how much if any of my lack of bladder control has to do with psychological issues..

In addition to double incontinence, I have bi-lateral Meniere's disease and a cerebellar injury, which together make me walk like a drunk. I have gastroparesis, which makes me vomit in my sleep and makes me think I'm about to vomit with every bite I take. My colon is especially exasperating, with blockage/diarrhea caused by pinched nerves. Most of my difficulties can be traced to Marfan syndrome, a genetic disease which has attacked my spinal structures.

I guess I'll get in here, too. Ulcerative Colitis (in remission, but take a maintenance drug 2x/day); GIRD; controlled glaucoma; diabetes; balance, gait & motor skills issues due to a stroke; and arteriosclerotic heart disease (heart attack & resulting angioplasty w/stent).

Hypertensive ... pretty severely.

I'm on several drugs to control it, and the diuretics certainly don't help me keep the bed dry.

I'm also prone to thrombophlebitis.

I have my grandfather's genetics which graced me with Psoriatic Arthritis (both knees, back & left shoulder) and Polycythemia Vera which causes a sharp increase in the number of red and white blood cells requiring me to give blood once a month. Good times.
