Yes. I looked at my coffee intake as well, and have decreased what I used to drink in a day to 2-3 cups max... NOT giving it up totally, and would never switch to decaf, that is like putting water into a car, just isn't going to get ya anywhere! Not a big soda drinker, 2-3 a week at best, but do take it to work on occasion. Seems like there is not much I drink that does not irritate the bladder, although I do drink much more water at home. After I started having problems years ago, I did a 2 week "no coffee and pop" trial, and it never made any difference day or night, so that was that. I do know when I don't drink anything at work, and I get home, I can have 2-3 glasses of water, and minimal output due to being dehydrated, try to avoid that but also try to avoid any daytime work problems or running to the bathroom way too often. Seems to be a bit different in regards to imput/output depending on what I am doing, that's for sure... :) Puffy

I recommend you move to California Smile It might not be 75 degrees every day but we don't get 100 degrees and 100% humidity and we don't get blizzards. I've lived here for almost 40 years and it is very nice.

Because of my Lithium medication intake, I have to drink several glasses of anything a day. I don't drink alcohol, but I do drink alot of juice, and water, tea, and some soda, but not much soda. With the Lithium, if I don't drink, my kidneys will shut down. I could end up on dialysis because of this med. So I have to drink to keep everything flushed. Dehydration is not my friend. I just have to deal with the wet diapers. Oh well. Such is life!

Since becoming diaper dependent I have also become a big water drinker. I keep a gallon jug by my desk at the office and drink from it regularly throughout the day on top of whatever coffee/tea/soda I'm having with meals.

As Sandy pointed out a while ago, drinking good quantities of water helps keep urine dilute, which means you are less likely to smell bad or get a rash.

It does mean more diaper changes, but IMO that is a small price to pay for better health.

I'd check out better diapers. 4-8 per day is a lot.

Although a rather old topic - I just stumpled across it.
People are sying they are drinking ONE GALLON on water each day to stay hydrated...Just to emphasize.
ONE GALLON equals 3,79 liters - equal to 128 oz.?

People must be living in their bathrooms / restrooms.....with such a gross amount

My own fluid intake is approx 65oz a day coffee plus water - but sine coffee make my bladder go ballistic I have cut it down to a max of two cups a day, one in the morning and one at lunch time. I used to before when I was younger, (hate that term :D ) BTW I'm 40 now, however I used to drink massive amounts of coffee during the day without any problems or frequent visits to the restroom.....

But even on this small amount of fluid I drink today, I race to the restroom like 20 times a day including at minimum one time per night, sometimes two.
So I can't even imagine 3,79 liters / one gallon / 128oz

Google "8 glasses of water a day" and you'll find interesting reading! Opinions abound....as always!

The "8 a day" has been around for some time and medical folks say that's a good place to start to bring your body up to ideal hydration. That's 8 eight oz glasses for a total daily water intake of 64 oz which is a half gallon, or 2 quarts or 4 pints. For you beer drinkers....picture drinking a six pack (72 oz) or 5 out of the six pack (60 oz) only it has to be water and NOT beer!

I can't do it; I know that. For too many years I stayed away from fluids (so as to prevent diaper leaks at worse possible times) and I think a lot of diaper wearers stay away from beverages and water. I think we "know better" but we just don't "do better".

there has already been good discussion of beverages here and it's good info. Coffee, sodas and beer basically do NOT count when it comes to your 64 oz per day.

I have started with a modest approach; I fill a 16 oz water bottle and attempt to get it in during the day. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Keep in mind the goal of proper hydration requires 4 times that amount! But I feel it's better than nothing and it's a start.

And, let me add as a diaper dependent person, that goal of drinking 64 oz of water a day has to be a whole lot easier for continent folks who can use the toilet every couple of hours....drinking that much.

JoeK - That is correct. It is a good place to start. I have had many medical professionals state that the ideal water intake should be 1oz of water for every pound you weigh. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink 75oz of water daily.

A couple of other things to weigh in on this conversation.
1. Caffeine is a diatetic. Which basically means it helps you urinate more often. So, if you drink a lot of coffee - you will end up going to the bathroom more.
2. Coffee does have a laxative effect in a lot of people I know. I don't know of any medical studies on this one though.
3. I am not sure if there has been a study on the effects of artificial sweeteners either. I know of some people who have troubles with certain ones.
4. It has also long been known that activity that enduces persperation will reduce the amount of urination a person will have. That is why when people are out in the heat it is recommended to drink more water to avoid dehydration.

Now, given all that, I try to drink more water in general. One because I am trying to lose weight and two because it is healthier. I maybe have one soda weekly at most and then I try to go for a natural root soda with cane sugar instead of artificial sweeteners. I drink a few cups of coffee daily but try to stick with water for the most part.
