First, since I'm new here, hello all! Second, I have an appointment in the morning with my primary care...

I wet the bed until I was nearly 16, but haven't had a single issue in 24 years. No amount of alcohol, prescription meds (including sleep aids), lack of sleep, or stress has ever been a problem. Until...

About 6 weeks ago I woke up in a wet bed. About 2 weeks later it happened again. 3 or 4 nights later it happened two nights in a row, and now it's almost every night.

Thank God my wife's an understanding woman. After the 3rd or 4th bout I bit the bullet and bought a bag of "adult briefs," aka diapers. I never thought I'd be wearing diapers again at 40... That's also when I called the doc.

I have no other symptoms. Nothing to indicate an infection. No daytime problems.

I hope this is something simple and it gets fixed in short order... I really don't look forward to hunting season in a cabin with my Father in-law, or upcoming trips out of town with friends at the moment...

I am glad to hear that you are seeking medical attention. A common cause of adult onset bedwetting is sleep apnea. So your doctor may want to check for that.

Your not the only one in there 40's to start having this happen. Mine started back in April, and later I started having daytime wetting also. One word of wisdom, dont expect your PCP to fix the issue. He will probably send you to a urologist as the next step, while prescribing some meds for bladder spasms. I just went to a urologist, and he changed the medication, so we will see what happens, but he made me feel better about my chances of making things better.

Yeah, I really didn't expect my GP to be the final stop. He ran blood, urine, and ordered an IVP, which is scheduled for Tuesday. I would imagine if that all comes back clean, the next step will be a urologist.

He didn't mention sleep apnea, which is a problem for my Dad. I'll have to bring that up. On the other hand, my wife hasn't noticed anything unusual about my sleep patterns and/or unusual amounts of snoring. Still something worth throwing into the ring...

What type of protection did you get? And is it doing the job? Papa

I'm on my 3rd attempt to find workable "protection," and no, it isn't perfect.

My 1st attempt was a Depend pull-up product, which was completely worthless. The 2nd was a Depend brief, which was only marginally better. That pretty much exhausted what I could find in the major chain stores locally, so I started digging around online and found Tranquility ATN's, which is what I'm using at the moment.

The ATN's work a lot better than the Depends, but I still get leaks most nights and have to change bedding. From what I'm reading, I think my problem is that I'm a side sleeper, but I have no idea what to do to next to improve the situation. Advice is definitely welcome.

Night time liaks can be harder to manage with disposables, maybe the addition of a "stuffer or liner" inside will add to the absorbancy level, or yopu can step up the quality and try the Abena brand, or the Dry 24/7, the latter I have never used, but have seen good reviews from those that do use them. I hope you get some answers from the doc's, keep us informed, Puffy

The only solution for side sleepers (being one myself) that doesn't leak, that I know of, is cloth diapers and non-wicking plastic pants. If you want to stick with disposables, your best bet is to go with a more premium disposable like Abena, Dry 24/7 or Wellness. You might consider picking up a pair of terry lined PUL pants from KINS to catch any leaks as well.

Thanks for the tips, guys. It's appreciated.

The cloth diapers look to be pretty darn expensive, at least if this ends up being short term. I guess if I'm forced to face a reality that this isn't short term, then they get more attractive. In the meantime, I think I will give one of the other disposables a shot and maybe try to find a plastic pant. I poked around at NorthShore Care, which is where I bought the ATN's. They have Abena, but I can't find any type of plastic/rubber pants there. Looks like Kins is in Canada, which isn't a deal killer, but will make shipping take longer I think. (I'm in the US)

At this point, I'm still hoping this is something temporary and we'll find a way to make it go away. I'm very interested in the product suggestions, don't get me wrong, but I'm really digging for possible causes and things to discuss with the docs. The sleep apnea comment was a great one. That's not something I would have thought of.
