I tried Kins 3 or 4 mil plastic pants a few years ago. I know the vinyl was textured on the outside and smooth on the inside. I was disappointed how soon the vinyl became brittle but I liked the waist and leg bands as they were comfortable. I'd like to try their 6 mil pants as I believe they might last longer and I like the leg and waist bands. Can anyone tell me how they hold up? Is the 6 mil vinyl also textured or is it smooth inside and out? I see they also have a "Tuffy" 6 mil pant with elastics instead of their standard waste and leg bands. Has anyone tried these? I've been using Gary 4 mil pants for day wear which hold up fairly well but I'd like something that lasts longer. I've been using PUL pants from Gary for sleeping and they appear that they will last for years but I don't wear them during the day due to how noisy they are. I'm going to be needing to order more pants soon and I thought I might try something that has a longer life.

Good day DDS, I tried the plastic version from Kins, but I just don't like the plastic style of any of them I have tried, too stiff, and do not seem to last very long with use, and that is air drying them to save the time before they become brittle. I do prefer the softer cloth style of the Gabby's coverpants ( http://www.gabbys.net/index.php?main_pa ... ducts_id=9 ) :) , and I am guessing they are similar in texture to the ACD kind on their site ( http://www.adultclothdiaper.com/PRODUCT ... f-PUL-Pant ) These I have yet to try, and seem a bit pricey, but got good reviews. I am not sure, but maybe I am alone in this with not being a fan of anything plastic? :?: Puffy

I'll gladly throw in my two cents worth! I like the Kins vinyl pants, the 6 mil mid weight.

I feel the 4 mil gave them the bad reputation for plastic pants that don't last. Yes the 4 mil pants (10300V) are supremely comfortable, I would characterise them as feeling as if they were made of silk, rather than a plastic! But they are fragile and could tear easily and didn't last but a few wear cycles before the vinyl would start to stiffen.

The six mil mid weight pants (20300V) is far better. The vinyl is smooth on both sides, seams are heat sealed and the leg and waist elastics are the nice gentle Lycra. I rotate several pair and I get a year at least, before some stiffening begins.

The same pants can be had with encased elastic (50300V) and tho they do not wick any wetness onto the sheets, the elastics are not Lycra inside, rather a regular elastic which I find a bit stronger....so while I wear a Large size with the Lycra bands, I find I need the Extra Large size in the encased for the elastics to be "not too tight".

With the Tuffy pants (21300V) I find the waist a bit tight, even tho the elastic is wide and cushioned. That may not bother most folks, I am overly sensitive to elastic bands. I think you might find the Tuffy a bit deeper, ie they come up higher on the back waist, good for larger cloth diapers perhaps.

Going the other way, for something to wear over a pull on cloth diaper or a disposable, the Low Rider (40300V) is a much briefer cut, said to be 2" lower in the waist and I think the crotch is about half what it is on the regular cut vinyl pants.

For non plastic pants, they offer very nice nylon (10300)....but they are a bit noisy, as you found the PUL to be. They are just like the lightweight 4 mil vinyl pants but they stay soft and last a long time!

And NO, I sure don't work for Kins; I just like their stuff and once I discovered what they had, I pretty much left Gary behind....which includes Leakmaster, made by Gary.

One more thought: plastic pants that are not vinyl and stand up "forever" are polyurethane / urethane plastic. Not nearly as common as vinyl pants and with PUL (polyurethane laminate) the pants made from the sheet version of polyurethane may be harder to find....I got mine from Gary many years ago. They are thin, about 4 mils and tough! For me they are not as slippery as vinyl and I need more powder to reduce rub / chaff in the crotch when walking. Again, different folks may have different results in comfort. And urethane pants are noisier than vinyl but any noisy pant can be silenced with cotton underwear worn over it. But super light weight, wear forever and unaffected by oils....which is what stiffens vinyl....even your natural skin oil will take it's toll but if you have to use a rash cream, that really kills vinyl pants but has no effect on urethane pants. Oh, and that's why the non-plastic pants like the nylon are great when using rash cream...the waterproofing is urethane....the coating on the nylon to waterproof it is a thin coating of urethane / polyurethane (same thing different terms). I think Fetware might have urethane; they have an incredible assortment of waterproof pants!

Good luck, DDS, hopefully you'll get even more responses and ideas to ponder!

I would like to put in my two cents also.

I now use a Foley catheter 24/7 my incontinence now dictates an indwelling catheter I cannot go on my own.

My incontinence started some 42yrs ago and I used many different manufactures over the years for cloth diapers back then there was nothing else except a McGuire urinal which I did use for work.
The all-time best cloth diapers were Curity 21x40 they absorbed the most with means you did not need them as thick. As for cover pants Bittner made not only plastic pants that held up well but also made rubber pants that really worked.
There was another company I recall Warren something can’t remember but they made an institutional quality rubber and plastic pant. This company also hade cloth diapers and I believe the best. They were made of the same cloth as Curity diapers.

Over the years most of the good company’s disappeared when the disposables came on the market. But new ones started and I have to agree Kins is one of the better ones except their plastic pants. Not only the plastic did not hold up but the cut did not fit me well.
They do make a good cloth diaper one of the best today and they will work with you making any size or the way you want them to be made they are a great company and extremely friendly on the phone.

The urethane plastic pants do last forever and I mean forever I used the same three pants for many years and they did discolor but are in perfect shape otherwise. As mention they are noisy when walking and do chafe your legs so powder is needed but they do last forever.

I just went through all my old stuff I collected over the years it is unreal how much I have.
I am 68yrs old and if my urologist keeps me using a Foley catheter I will never have to buy any supplies again.

The only time I use diapers is if my IBS starts to act up it been under control for the most part but every now and then and when I change the catheter every month I will use diapers until I pass urine.

My two cents

Thank you for the responses. I do think the PUL pants I have are comfortable but noisy. I've tried wearing them during the day with a pair of regular underwear over the PUL pants but they still seem noisy. I do not mind vinyl pants as they are very quiet. I do not like vinyl covered elastics. I've got a couple pair (7 mil) with covered elastics and the vinyl has stayed soft and supple except over the elastics where it cracked after only a few months of use. The bunched up vinyl over the elastics leave nasty marks on my skin and the elastics take forever to dry as they do get wet when washing. I've been satisfied with the Gary pants I've been getting from Adult Cloth Diaper but figured I'd try the 6 mil pants from Kins to see if they might last longer. I did not want to try them if the vinyl was textured like their 3 mil pants as I believe the embossed texture tend to tear easier than smooth vinyl does. I might sound picky but since I have to wear protection 24/7 it has to be comfortable. Thanks again.

I also use the urethane pants but I get them from Fetware. I've also tried their Cloud XT. The XT are extra thick and do well at night although they don't last as long as the urethane ones. The urethane (as will vinyl) will discolor some, but not bad.
I also get the Hi-back ones, don't really need them during the day but at night they do cut down on the "over the top" leaks to the bed pad.

I use the Kins heavy vinyl pant with the terry lining. They are holding up well.

I have 3 pair of plastic pants from Fetware. You can also order from their sister company Driwear. The Fetware pants I have have held up for about 4 months. I wear them all the time. I just wash them in the shower. But I am pleased with the quality and will be a repeat buyer. They came recommended by another user, Johnstone. I am glad he suggested it.
