Wheelchair users are lucky in that we are taken aside for a frisking for which they offer privacy. Of course the wheelchair it self is dabbed for explosives!

Ever since the privacy bill came out, every doctors office, clinic, hospital, or pharmacy handed out those "patients" Bill of rights. We now enjoy private hospital rooms, so why can't the TSA get on board and take each person through a screened area automatically? We all have different body types and conditions. I would be horrified if my diapers were exposed in full view of the public. I can see a class action suit coming right around the corner

I haven't flown in a couple of years but like quite a few people on here I chose to fly while wearing protection. I only took one trip but went through 3 different airports. I was only examined at the first one where I boarded the first plane and even then it wasn't a frisk, only a scan with the wand. My carryon bag went through the scanner and I had two diapers in there but no one mentioned anything.

I am not a big fan of flying. I prefer to travel slower so I can see the sights. However I think that if a terrorist group wanted to down a plane again in the US or anywhere in the world, they could if they really wanted to. The problem with most airport security measures today is that they are reactive instead of pro-active. No one is going to blow up a plane by hiding explosives in their shorts anymore because the security people are looking for that now.

Israel has one of the best airport safety records going in the world today and they don't rely on expensive technology to get the job done. Most of it is done by profiling, which is a really bad word in the US these days. However, how much personal freedom are you willing to give up to be safe?

When I have flown, it has been using either a sheath (exteranl catheter) or a supra-pubic catheter which usually results in their being some fluid in the drainage bag on m,y leg. Oddly, no one at the airport questioned that last time I flew (UK - Cyprus and return) nor when I went Canada (UK - Canada and back) which I at the time thought odd as everyone was having to have 100ml bottles of things.

Oh, and with a 2 litre bag discretly attached under the seat in front, not trpis to the min-on-plane-loo either!

Maybe the swabs of my wheelchair are thought to be enough to prove the chair and me safe!

I work in a courthouse and have to go through detectors daily. I was tipped off that if you hold your hand or arm over the area with the metal, it is less likely to go off.

When I have to travel I wear disposables. So far I have not had any embarassing situations. I carry a few diapers in my carry-on and it has been gone through a few times but never any mention of the diapers. These people go through hundreds of bags or more each day. I'm certain they see adult diapers on a regular basis.

I've set the metal detector off at my local county court house multiple times. Only once was I wearing a pin-on cloth diaper. Each time the deputies attributed the alarm to metal in my shoes. They had ne empty my pockets, etc... but never frisked me. Each time I've visited the courthouse since I've been wearing a disposable and tennis shoes so not to risk setting off the alarm. I'm wondering why a pair of riveted bluejeans with a metal zipper doesn't set off the detector but a single dime in your pocket will.

I am a disposable only user (at least for now). However, I *nearly always* set off the detector at both courthouses and airports due to my metal hip joints. I have to admit that the pat downs I have received have been pretty lame. And so far I have *never* been asked about the bulkiness around my waist line; even when I was getting near the "full up" level. Frankly, I really am not worried about getting patted down at an airport! Which causes me to wonder "how good is the security?"; especially at the airports where I sometimes do not set off the alarm!

As for DDS's question about why things get set off at times and not at others, that depends on how "sensitive" they have the detector set to. On a few occasions I have not set off the alarms when it was the same detector from the same location/entry point. It just depends on the security person that calibrates the unit at the start of their work-shift. And given the amount of metal I have in my legs, it makes me wonder what else is getting through!

And just to add insult to injury, a couple of years back I had fractured my knee so I was on hollow, aluminum crutches. Several airports & court houses just waved me through! No pat downs or follow ups! For all they knew I could have been faking it! WOW!

I wore snap on cloth lined plastic pants. The snaps set the alarm off and I had to show them to the guard.

Another time I had several disposables in my carry on, it was gone through but nothing was said. I had checked a bag with a handgun in it so I got singled out for "special" treatment and very close inspection at the checkpoint.
