The reason I'm asking this is that my wife says it's not normal to have a bowel movement right after eating. Almost every morning, not all of them, but most, if I eat breakfast, then I'll have a mess in my diaper within 10 minutes or less. I'm not certain, but I think that eating just activates the bowel function, and it's nothing to worry about, but my wife is less certain. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

One reason I ask this is that I'm trying to loose some weight, and I often don't eat a breakfast, and that means that my first B/M of the day most likely will be while I'm out someplace, not safe at home. And yet, other days, I can go all day without having one. Since I never know when it will happen, this makes being diapered a must. I normally have only 1 or 2 a day, so it's not that big a deal, and if my first one is small, I know that I'll have another one later in the day.

Actually you should have a BM shortly after eating. That is the sign of a properly functioning digestive tract.

Think about your dog... you feed him, then you take him out. It works the same way.

Humans have learned to hold their feces... sometimes for days... which can create a tailback into your gut and cause all sorts of other problems... but I digress.

Ricky,
Welcome to the forum! I've read your other post and see you have gone through a lot! We're here to help or answer any questions you have.
As far as your BM's, your body typically finds a pattern doing this. My pattern is in the morning right after breakfast. This is not unusual at all.
As far as your comment on losing some weight, don't skip breakfast! That's the most important meal of the day. Eat a good lunch and a light supper. Don't skip meals though. And one important thing is to exercize! Any type will help a bunch if you cut back on your portions. Good Luck! ........Paul Martin

Thanks Paul,

I appreciate all the help from the board here. I know I shouldn't skip breakfast, everybody else tells me that too. My problem though is that if I eat early in the day, then my digestive tract begins working and I'll have to eat again in less than 3 or 4 hours or the hunger pains get really bad. However, if I skip b-fast and go about my day, I can go through most of the day without ever needing anything until later in the afternoon, except of course for something to drink.
And exercising is difficult for me too. My back doesn't allow me to do much in the way of exercise. But I try to stay as active as I can by working on my yard or house, or my old vehicles. Unfortunately, I can't do nearly as much nor as fast as I used to be able to, and if I do too much in a day, I'll suffer for 3 or 4 days later, unable to do a thing then.
Thanks for the info on the bowel function too. I wasn't sure if there was anything wrong with me or not, but my wife thought there was for sure, but she was basing her assumptions on her own personal experiences.
She was thinking that maybe I was using too much stool softener or laxative to counter the effects of the morphine, and that's why I go right after eating. But I've tried to cut back on one or the other, or all three even, with disasterous results. It's a delicate balancing act to keep my system from either stopping up completely, or from blowing my brains out my butt! Sorry for the graphic description there, but you get my point. So at least I can stop worrying about that now anyways. Thanks again.

Rick

I'm mostly on a bowel schedual program now. Through meds & diet. But the last few years I normally had a bowel movement either right before or as I woke and then within a hour or two of eating in the morning. I think most people incontinent or not void in the mornings. My nurse said its not uncomon at all.
