Using diapers for bowel movements for ease of cleanup..

This is going to sound unorthodox, especially for someone who usually has pretty good bow control. With my ADHD, plus my autism spectrum disorder, remembering to drink water, eat the right foods, and take fiber and miralax daily consistently is a challenge. Anything I need to do daily to maintain my health is hit or miss. I'm not making excuses, I'm always trying to improve it, but the reality is sometimes my fiber intake is less than ideal and I get constipated. When this happens, I find myself putting my fingers up my rectum to evacuate. It usually makes a big mess, and I spent about 20 minutes cleaning poop off my fingers. I have since come the realization that there's no real difference between that and deliberately having a bowel movement in the diaper itself. Both require cleanup and both involve handling of feces. With that in mind, until I figure out a way to consistently hydrate and take necessary fiber supplements, when necessary I do use the diapers for fecal containment now. I suppose you call this functional fecal incontinence. I used the diaper to relieve myself the other night at work and it was much less of a pain in the butt than I thought it would be. With using the toilet, I had no way of knowing how long I would take to use the bathroom, and I needed to get my work done and get done by 10:00 to avoid being over on time. I simply use the diaper to relieve myself and cleaned up on my break. It took me less than 15 minutes to clean up, something I can't guarantee would happen if I had to clean poop off my fingers had I gone the toilet and manual evacuation route. I never thought I'd find myself doing this, because I always thought that using the diaper deliberately to poop is unnecessary since I had bowel control to an extent, and doing this seemed weird or fetishistic. But really, it is a tool to manage a difficult situation with less cleanup and less headache. Nothing more nothing less. Those of you who have chronic constipation and difficulty remembering to do a specific thing at a specific time my also find this useful. Your mileage might vary.

Peace out!

Rob

Congratulations on finding a solution that works for you. My situation is similar, but in several ways, different. If I take enough fiber to prevent a blockage, I risk having a fecal accident. I manage using Nullo and heavy diapers, and always keep track of the nearest toilet.

Thanks Patrick!
Yeah, I have diverticulosis from chronic constipation, and that is quite painful. So, I would rather take maximum fiber supplemetns and hydrate often and empty my bowel on demand, in a diaper if necessary, rather than get constipated. Its a relief to get kind words of support and not condemnation for not doing the "normal" thing. Normal is a setting on a washing machine. Before I started relieving myself in diapers, I could spend upwards of 20-30 minutes in the bathroom and suffer the ire of my coworkers. When you are gone for 30 minutes at a time in the bathroom when its not your break, people start to suspect you are slacking off, and telling them I had to stick my finger up my butt to get my poop out is not the thing you want to say.

When it comes down to it, if using the toilet gets to be too much a hassle, it ceases to be a viable option. I just need to figure out fecal odor, and im golden. But, I work outside pushing carts, so its not like a bunch of people are going to be next to me sniffing. If i can stay somewhat regular, the stool wont stick to my body too much and I can just use wipes and underpads to clean up. At home, ive cleaned up in the shower, and its much less work cleaning poop of my butt using my hands in the shower than it is sitting on the toilet sticking my hand up there and then wiping off the poop. Yes, I could use gloves, but the fact is its still extra work that is equal if not more work than pooping in a diaper and then cleaning up. If I can have a regular day, and use the toilet without difficulty and sticking my hand up there, GREAT! id love doing that whenever possible. But im not going to stop living my life if it means I only poop in the toilet. Life is too short!

Peace out!

Rob

Just curious why you use bare fingers and not gloves? Seems that wouldn't be sanitary.

Hey there Elijah!

Good to hear from you. Yes, using gloves would be more sanitary and I have done that very thing in the past, but sometimes when I am at work that is easy to forget to do. I am starting to insist on my wife using gloves if she has to manually evacuate to avoid leaving fecal matter on the toilet tank. However, even with gloves it still leaves quite a mess sometimes, because then I have all the matter on the glove.

How are you doing? Are you feeling any better? Thinking of you :)
