I don't run to the doctor every time I see a little red in my poop, since half the time it turns out to be nothing but hemorroids. But let's just say the last time I gave myself a suppository for constipation, I wasn't very gentle/got things in the wrong canal, and things bled down there a bit. And bled some more when I used an enema. With the amount of blood, I checked in at the local care clinic to make sure I didn't perforate. The PA said I migth have an anal fissue and said that in order to treat it id need a vasodiolator, and referred me to an actual general surgeon specializing in colorectal issues. He didn't see anything, probably because I waited a while to see him, only after my but started getting irritated. He didn't see anything, and wanted to do a colonoscopy. I'm not too thrilled at the idea because of how much you have to drink and how long you have to sit on the crapper, so he opted to hold off for 3 months. I'm thinking, cool.. but then I see red in my stool.. and no i haven't been using suppositories or enemas since they told me to stop. I REALLY don't want a colonoscopy..although the prep would clean out any constipaton issues I have.. and give my bowel a reset... But I might be making a mountian out of a molehill. I've been eating a lot of ramen with red flavoring so im thinking that could explain the red in the stool. It's just.. sitting all day on the crapper is not my idea of a pleasant time. I would hate it even more if I had to take work off to do it. My last colonoscopy was 2006.. They didn't find anything then. But really, the actual procedure wasnt any big deal.. it was the prep that was unpleasant..

So what say you? Should I call and tell them I have red in my poop? Or should I hold off? Really dont want a scope.. but will if I have to.

Peace out!

Rob

I think I would, at least if after a few days that the bleeding persists. Obviously hold back on the "ramen with red flavoring" to see if that is a factor. I think the nature of that stuff is too serious to neglect.

If stopping the Ramen clears your system, wonderful. There should be a test that determines whether what you see is really blood, or just vegetable dye. Good luck and keep us informed.

Rob - while the prep for the colonoscopy isn’t pleasant (I’ve had a few in my day) it’s temporary and wipes instead of toilet paper is a game changer. If your doctor has suggested it it may be worth doing if you are concerned
