With the weather getting cold, I was wondering how my diaper would be. Most of you said it already, it does help keep the cold wind out so at least the middle section of me stays warm, lol.

Last month, my wife talked me into a 5K walk. Well it was cold out, not -2 like it has been here lately, but for someone that doesn't get out much, it was cold, cause it started snowing. The wind was really bad near the river and I thanked God I had that extra padding. Some how, she has also talked me into another 5k walk in Feb, in Louisville, KY, the average temp during this time is about 17. So again I hope I stay warm during that time.

You folks have a great thread going with this cold blast of air that has plunged temperatures to record lows in some cases, in the normally warmer parts of the country.

I'm in New England and have always worn cloth diapers and never experienced any discomfort in severe cold. I do wear thick diapers as I prefer not to change thruout the day. I do wear long johns and I think the most important thing is not having a leak. Any leak will prove disasterous as far as comfort goes. If your plastic pants do their job of confining the wetness inside the diaper, I think body heat will maintain the wet diaper at a comfortable level and you won't feel cold as the diaper gets wet thru the day. I do wear long johns and believe in layers, I think things would be a lot different if I just wore a pair of sweat pants over the diaper. I think heat would transfer out and the wet diaper would feel cold.

I've not worn disposables in really cold weather, so I can't comment. I would think that they might be less comfortable in that the leg openings are not that snug and any air exchange into a wet diaper is going to result in evaporative cooling and lead to discomfort in cold weather, letting you know you have a wet and cold diaper on.

I should mention that soft elastic leg bands can wick wetness which could make for cold discomfort with cloth diapers and plastic pants. I've been wearing the Kins encased elastic plastic pants and there is no wicking so my diaper wetness stays well sealed in, contributing to my warm comfort in spite of below zero weather.

I hate to say this, but the tempertature here in Tucson, Arizona reached a high of 80 degrees yesterday. We are having a heat wave. I better get my summer clothes (short pants & pull over short sleeve shirts) back out.

Since were on the subject of cold and what not, i was wondering if anyone has been out for a day in the cold, leaves their spare change bag in the car, and goes for a change, and comes to find that their rash cream and wipes have frozen.. its happened to me a couple times.. and i think they thaw out.. It only happens because i dont feel like carrying arund my spare change bag with me all day.. only when i need it..i just leave it in my van the rest of the time. School is the only place this has happened. Any ideas on how to prevent this? I think the diapers themselves werent affected by cold, and were still usable.. but the wipes were frozen solid..LOL.. good thing this problem wont be a problem for much longer when we get into summer..

Yep that's a pup for me I don't worry about wipes when I change in the van or creams. For the most part in the winter I rarely have any problems were I need creams when it's cold out. As far as wipes I'm only urine incontinent so just getting out of a wet one and getting something dry on is good enough for me. But I will say there are times that the ice cold dry one can be an eye opener when you first put it on

I am not sure if one stays warmer in the cold when wearing a diaper but I do know that being out in the cold seems to make me wet more often. Something to do with the cold temps I guess.

It does get cold where I live in the upper midwest. The predicted low temp tonight is -9 below zero. The weather gurus are calling for a warming trend to start in a couple days with high temps climbing into the 40's around here.

I have the same problem with the cold. I have a greenway by my office wher I walk at lunch time. When it's really cold, I can feel my diaper getting wetter with several wettings. I don't know why it does that. .....Paul Martin
