I was glad to read of your recovery. Keep up the good work, and keep us informed.

As for physical therapy, physical therapists have been harder on me than army drill sergeants were in basic training, but I owe them more than I can repay for my recovery.

i promised an update on this had the physio come out to see me today and was not too happy with my situation and is wanting me to go as a day patient for physio at the hospital as the diagnoses made needs special exercises

it would seem that the potassium problem what i suffered from while in hospital has come back to haunt me although i have since had a blood test which has come okayish i am now facing a heart scan this is getting way beyond me. i have been monitoring my B.P as potassium issues can cause the B.P to go all over the place and from been what i call unstable this is now settling down i have also down the sitting and standing test and they are also within good ranges. tachy heart problem is also now good.

as for the incontinence i have had some pretty bad bowel leakages and it is going high at the back of diaper so a rethink is needed in this.

i am in the UK so wondering if there are higher backed nappies or if some insert would be better, any input more than welcome from both the UK people and you nice people in the USA.

for now i am taking it steady as instructed but it is hard from been fairly independent and mobile to going through this, the thinking process can be very hard as everything has to be thought through.

also it would seem that i am down to having an operation but get this, no one has actually told me what it is for and i have been ringing around to find out what it is about, the problem is that i am under 4 hospital department teams

dinner time tomorrow i have someone coming to see me to assess me for personnel care that will be interesting to say the least.

at least things are starting to progress. one final thing i have been told to more or less sleep upright with a big sigh as laying too low is inducing the benign positional vertigo or BPPV.

for now take care all out there,

mikey

Mikey, I'm sorry that your medical issues are continuing, and I hope you get a resolution soon. Regarding your bowel leakage going high up the back of your diaper, please advise as to the doctors' thoughts about why it's happening and how to stop it. My fecal incon is infrequent, but I'm having the same issue. It started right after I had surgery in early Sept. to remove a rectal tumor. I had a tumor in the exact same spot over 10 years ago and had surgery to remove it as well, but I didn't experience the back splatter that time around (also a different surgeon). Thanks, Mikey, and has anyone else experienced this?

W.

i spoke to the district nurses who i am under and discussed this situation they thought with me having type 7 diarrhoea that this was the cause but the type 7 has settled down.

one thing is clear the intended landing zone and guards are not preventing the splatter from going outside them, the diaper is clearly keeping the containment but boy is it a real mess situation.

i make sure to wash properly and also use barrier cream but after doing all that hours later it is back to a messy diaper again.

may be my problem lays with the diseased colon but clearly that in itself wouldn't cause the splatter.

i am provided with so many diapers a day but also bought my own tena active with plastic backing, these are designed for people who are more mobile but the same problem still happens.

it would be good to hear from more about what would cause the splatter soiling, my concern is how high at the back of the diaper it is going and obviously it could result in going over the top and cause soiling to clothing.

Mikey - first sorry you are dealing with all of this.
I was thinking would a plastic or pul pant help? I'm thinking that help the containment.

Mikey, I use premium pull-ups, and they mostly contain the back splatter, but not always - I have had some minor soiling of outer clothing, but minor soiling is soiling, and it isn't acceptable. I completely agree that the splatter makes for an especially messy diaper (and backside) and is aggravating and time-consuming to clean up after. I think it's time for me to do some internet research regarding this. I have another follow-up appointment with my surgeon next month. I had advised him of the problem @my 2nd follow-up in Oct., thinking he would tell me that there was some residual swelling in my rectum as a result of the surgery, and that the splatter would stop once the swelling went down. He danced around my questions, and I truly hope that he didn't inadvertently and permanently redirect the path of the flow of fecal matter.

Attends makes a pad specifically for bowel incontinence (F6). I don't know if it will work in conjunction with a diaper, but it might be worth looking into.
I saw them at www.incontinencechoice.co.uk.

sorry i didn't come back on with this.

i have taken quite a lot on board and will consider the best option i think it be be just a case of using plastic or PUL pants, are PUL cooler as they would have to be worn day and night?

the main reason i didn't come on is that i had a doctors home visit and was hit with not so good news.

whatever has happened it would seem that my chances of making a a full recovery is only 50/50 i am a gambling person and would like to have better odds.

i am a fairly tough person and even when the chances of full recovery are low it is astounding how the body can repair and cope with not so good situations.

i am still mulling over yesterday as it was a lot to take in.

for now one fighting person t.c and i will be back on soon.

I would recommend to use high back pul pants or high back plastic pants. It gives an inch more of protection

Hi Mikey so sorry to read about the ordeal you're going through. I can't offer any advice about protection as I'm new to all of this but I was wondering if you've asked your doctors if Imodium is okay for the diarrhea? I know it has been a fast cure for me in the past.
