I have mixed incontinence and sometimes totally lose my bladder so I have to wear pull ups 24/7 and sometimes tab styled diapers. I am usually wet but sometimes I will feel a strong urge to go pee and when I get ready to go to the bathroom I realize I may as well go in my diaper because at this point what difference does it make. I have a bad attitude on this BUT I am so young to have this problem. I guess this can affect anyone no matter who you are. My question is, is it wrong of me to just let it go and go in my diaper if I am already wet anyway? Or is that weird?

Not weird at all. Many of us graduate to a more carefree attitude.

Sabrina, neither weird nor wrong. However, my urologist probably would say "use it if you want to keep it." In order to keep what bladder control you have it is necessary to exercise those nerves and muscles it by trying to use the toilet as much as you are able. "Accidents" and occasional use of the diaper "for convenience" are not a problem. However, those who have been in diapers for a long time usually find that it becomes easier to just use the diaper.

You say that you are young, so you need to keep as much urinary control as you can. Have you seen a urologist yet?

If I’m close to a bathroom and it is convenient to use it, I do so. However, I no longer search frantically for a bathroom or rush to get to one. Unless a bathroom is handy, I just use my diaper. After all, that’s what the diaper is for.

No it's not weird at all, as mentioned before that's what your protection is for. I've found the main thing is to try to determine your "situation" for the day and choose the appropriate protection. Then, when in doubt use the best protection you've got. Yes, you're going to under-use an expensive premium diaper from time to time but it's always better to be over protected than under protected.

Yep, That's exactly what I do.

Hey, how old are you if I may ask? I remember my own struggles when I was a teenager and in my early twenties - to be honest, learning to live with IC and coping with my issues was a total nightmare for me, so I'm just curious on how you are doing in life. If you ask me, there is nothing wrong in letting it go - cause as you said, what difference does it make? Yet, it depends on how incontinent you really are I would say as wearing diapers for an extended period of time and urinating in them even though you had a chance to go to the toilet will just make you urinate in your diaper more and you'll slowly start losing control over this issue, so I guess you really need to think if you want to spend rest of your life in diapers or do you still want to fight for a brighter future?

If I'm very close to a restroom, I try to make it to the toilet. However, if I'm not close to a restroom, or if my diaper is already wet from leakage accidents (my urinary incontinence is primarily of the urge type), I use the diaper and change when I can.

That being said, I'm making it to the toilet less often than I used to since the urges turn into floods within just a few short minutes.

After dealing with this for over six years, it no longer feels awkward when I wet my diaper. Changing diapers in busy public restrooms has become second nature.
