I tried another new diaper brand and oh my gosh they suck. Get a load of this:

Molicare Slip Super Plus Small: received on Friday and I'm sending them back. tapes have almost no stickum. They came undone within 30-60 min or wearing. I was hardly moving at all when it happened.
Abena Abri-Form Air Plus Small: the tapes themselves stretch over time. Have to wear tight speedo over diaper or diaper is a few inches too big miway through the night. I refasten and they eventually stretch more. It seems a problem that I can lower the diaper easier than underwear without undoing a tape.
Attends small - tab rips from back of diaper when putting it on.
Tranquility ATN small - not tall enough, feels like it isn't over my hips (it's only as high as my hip bone)
Northshore brand small (cloth back) - tapes will slip over time. not the worst though
Tena Flex small - belt dug into my stomach. Very uncomfortable and couldn't fit well - too large gaps at the bottom of my rear
Tena slip super plus (I think), small cloth back: bought these in Europe last May. Barely able to attach bottom tapes as the brief is smaller than manufacturer specifications. But tapes didn't budge or overstretch and never ripped from the back. Best so far of the cloth backed
Seni small (plastic back): excellent tapes and absorbancy. However noisy as can be. Sounded like I was wearing a potato chip bag
Molicare Super Plus? small (thin, purple colored, plastic): decent. Relatively quiet, good tapes, and absorbs. Did have one diaper split open in the back however
Depends 6 tape small - decent fit and tapes held nicely. 6 tapes are a bit of pain, especially if you can and want to use the can.

gtrudeau,

You mention several times about tapes slipping or ripping or brief too small. Two thoughts:

1) you may need a slightly larger brief. Perhaps not a full size up, but a brief that runs larger in your size such as the ConfiDry 24/7.

2) reinforce the tapes. I tape my diapers very snugly but I reinforce the tapes with a bit of Duck brand duct tape. Now I never have a tape failure. :D

I'm wondering the same thing. Most tapes just barely hold, but they do hold. If you have a lot ripping off or coming undone, then they might bring too tight. Either tape them a little looser, or try going with a size larger.

i had a brainstorm and tried an experiment this morning with one of the Molicares. I affixed a small piece of duct tap to the front of the brief and attached the briefs' tape to that. Did it for all 4 tapes and i wore it for a few hours this morning. Just sitting quietly in a chair on Friday and the tapes didn't hold. This time they held just fine for 4 hrs sitting, walking, climbing stairs, etc. Wore nothing over them except somewhat loose fitting jeans. Took it off now since I don't need in daytime but will try again tonight.

I suspect Molicare is using the same glue for their tapes on the cloth-bound that they used for the plastic backed. this glue can't adhere well to cloth or there is an insufficient amount of glue and they need more to hold to the cloth backing.

I'd consider ditching the cloth backed and go plastic. People's opinions vary, but i've never had a good experience with any cloth briefs. The Seni Quatro is the only exception and they're still not good enough to trump plastic in my opinion. Something about the plastic shell just always results in a better fit for me, and if the tapes are good, I've never had a problem.

Many brands of diapers simply don't work for me, so you're not alone. There are more brands for me to try but so far the only 3 that are truly "confidence inspiring" for me are:

Abena L4 original plastic style. I can get such a good fit with these and even use them without a booster as a night time diaper and I'm a heavy wetter. Leaks are rare. Only con for me is I wish they'd jack up the SAP content in them.

Better Dry L10. I just started using these. They're ridiculously absorbent. May switch to these as my new night diaper. Only con is that I'm skeptical about their long term availability. Comfycare.net is the only source for them in the US I can find and they're only economical if you buy the 60 count case @ $99. The Betterdry.com website is down so I'm not even sure this company is still producing. Very concerning.

Northshore Supreme and Supreme Lites in plastic: Regular Supremes are a good night time diaper or extended wear day time diaper. Slightly more thirsty than Abena L4 due to more SAP. The Lites are my primary day time diaper. They're 40% less bulky than the regular Supremes and only 20% less absorbent (32 oz actual functional capacity). I typically only have to change 1-2 times at work.

Incon management is really a lot of trial and error and hit and miss if you ask me. It can be extremely frustrating and expensive to find a diaper that really works for you. FIT is probably the single most important factor. A slightly less absorbent but great fitting diaper will leak less than a poorly fitting super absorbent diaper. Find the diaper that fits you best and then if needed add a booster pad.

I want to avoid plastic if I can. My wetting incidents are very sporadic and if I can get a cloth backed brand to actually function I think I stand a better chance of reuse thereby using 50% less product.

Have you considered using cloth protection? Although Velcro closures limit adjustability, pin-type diapers are infinitely adjustable. And, if you are willing to do the necessary laundry, they can be much cheaper in the long run.

They are supposed to shrink in the first wash. They are cotton, and that is normal. You will end up washing them 5-8 times before full absorbency is achieved, since the fabric used has coatings that must be washed off before the cotton fibers can do their best work for you. If the cloth diapers you have are too small, then order the next size up. Just order a few until you know for sure that the size/shape/thickness etc. are right for you.
