After a 2 week stay in a catheter, I am now tether free. My surgeries went well, and was glad that they could remove the diverticula at the same time as the prostate. The diverticula was about the size of a grapefruit. My only restriction now is a 10 lb. limit on lifting, pulling, pushing. Last night I got a pretty severe pain in my penis. Thinking I needed to pee, I tried with little success. Was that pain indicative off a bladder spasm? Once I stood up after getting out of bed, I then started to pee some. I wear cloth diapers at night, and it was wet, but not soaked. I have also noticed that I can, at times, feel myself peeing without really having the urge. Not sure why that is? Anyway, that is my condition at the present time. I don't see my urologist for 6 weeks. I keep experimenting trying to find the best, most absorbent diaper. So far, the all white Bambino, Fosite am pm, and abuniverse simple have been the best. I have used the Dry 24/7, but the small is a little too small, and the medium is a way too large. Plus, I have had some issues with poor tapes with the Dry 24/7. Considering the condition my bladder was in for a long period of time, I may never be diaper free. So, my journey continues.

In looking back at a previous post, I believe I repeated myself a bit. I'll attribute my forgetfulness to my advancing age, and the after effects of surgery and anesthesia. Sorry folks.

God, even after SEVEN sphincterotomies I still get this. Yes it is a bladder spasm. Cor me it is tied to my urge incontinence. And yes, there are also times where I am draining freely without even noticing it too.

Well, I guess I spoke to soon. I contacted my urologist in Iowa City yesterday( now you know the general part of the globe I'm from), because I didn't think I was voiding very much since my catheter was removed. He said I should go to the nearest ER and have my bladder scanned. He was concerned that with the recent surgery some of the sutures could break and cause a serious problem. So, off we went and sure enough I was retaining over 700 ml. of urine. As a result, I am back in the catheter, and need to contact my surgeon and see what he suggests. I am not a happy camper to say the least. I wasn't very pleasant with the ER doctor and staff which makes me feel terrible. I know a lot of you here at this support group are in far worse condition than I am, so I apologize for being such a wimp.

After what you have endured, your apology is hereby rejected. You are not a wimp. The possibility that you could have torn your bladder sutures is enough to give me chills. And living with a Foley is no picnic. I hope your recovery will not suffer any more delays.

Thanks for keeping us posted.

Holy crap that's a lot of retention. No wonder you were getting bladder spasms.

Mentally prep yourself for a repair surgery soon. It sucks- I know- but will likely be necessary.
