Hi all,

I spent Thanksgiving with my family in TX, and had a great time, but there were a few bumps in the road. I somehow understimated how many diapers I would need for the two weeks wed be away from home, so i did 2nd day delivery on a bag of seni quatro from xp medical, but it would arrive too late. I tried to cancel but I couldn't. So I ad to find a local store and buy a bag of something. Dad limited me to major chain stores like HEB, Walgreens, Target, and CVS. Needleess to say, I was fairly certian they would all carry low quality brands. So i found a medical supply store that carried Tranquility, but dad got mad and said why didn't you look at the options I gave you. Well the medical supply store wasn't open on saturday, so i was left with going to HEB. They were selling Prevail, so i took what I could get, with the idea in the back of my mind to buy better stuff should the opportunity arise. I accidentally leave my tube of lubricant for my cathing in a bathroom somewhere so i have to go buy a tube. So we go to a medical supply place. And lo and behold, they sell Tena Super in size large. It was like finding gold. I waste no time buying it and the tube of lube, figuring my parents would be pleased i found quality diapers. To my suprise, angst, and anger , they insisted I return it, because it was 30 bucks for a bag. But the bag had liike 40 diaeprs in it. To me it was worth it, but I didn't want to fight so i returned it. I got nervous about the idea of wearing just prevail so i asked if i could go to walmart to buy baby diapers to use as boosters. My timing may have been a bit off, because we were at walmart yesterday but I didn't think of it. so they said no, use what you have. I just got really frustrated with them. Thankfully, my ConfiDry lasted and i found some baby diapers at a gas station and bought them.. but neded up not needing them.

Has this happened to anyone else? That is, well meaning family members questioning how many diapers you take, or what you buy or what you need? It just drives me insane..because they have no clue what dealing with this is like.

Ok, rant over..i feel better now.

Peace out!

Rob

You're kind of between a rock and a hard place, being dependant on your parents means you're subject to their whims.

You could have just let the interior diapers leak, to prove a point, but that's an awfully hard point on you as well.

The lack of support you experienced underscores the endless need to think ahead, to be prepared, to keep a reliable inventory of supplies on hand at all times. Your parents know of and accept your incontinence; minimizing its impact on their schedule and activities is a mark of your skill in managing. Good luck and keep us informed.

It sounds like your dad has also fallen for the general misconception that all adult diapers works just as good as the next. If that were true, then sure get the cheap stuff. Obviously (to us) it is not though.

I don't follow. You have your own money? why would your parents give a shit what kind of diapers you buy and from where?

i was thinking the same thing mikejames. and when i visit my parents i usually plan to over order. id rather have to take some back than run out. my parents have been understanding about the whole thing but i think we were both pretty (understandably) frustrated when i was figuring things out. they at first didnt understand that not all diapers are the same and the store bought ones suck. they get it now though and help me when i need to order. i wouldnt involve them at all but im on disability

If I remember currently, SG is still largely dependent on his parents, at least insofar as the incontinence products go.

MSU Spartan is partially correct. My mom manages my finances since im on SSI, so she has input on how much i spend and what i spend it on, but also for this trip I was dependent on my parents for transportation since i didn't have my car in TX and i would not feel comfortable driving around the city anyway. It all worked out in the end though. I'm applying for a new job so hopefully i get it and finances wont be as tight. The job is an online ESL teacher for kids in China. Wish me luck!

Peace out!

Rob

Good luck, and I hope that your employer will treat his/her employees with respect and dignity.

Good luck! Must be frustrating having to rely on family for finances for incontinence supplies. In the UK were lucky to get them on the NHS. You can't get stuff for mild incontinence like the small tena pads but you can for moderate upwards. Maybe not as much choice as you might like but things like Tena slip and molicare. I wonder how people get by in the US who have no family financial support and are on disability or job hunting. By the sounds of it you can get something but not very good? Can't imagine feeling very confident about going for a job interview if wearing protection they might leak!
