My anxiety is beginning to rise as our Eastern U.S. trip gets closer. My wife, her sister, and husband are embarking on a 3-week road trip to D.C., New York City, Boston, and Maybe Toronto. My travel companions know of my bladder issues, but that doesn't make me less anxious. An extra suitcase with diapers will be hard to disguise. Sometimes I think, "maybe I can manage without protection", but I'm too scared to try. There are times when I can go all day without any problems...no sensation that my bladder is filling. But, then the urge and pressure is so strong that I have little to no time to find a restroom. I'm really looking forward to this trip since I have never been to any of these cities. I hope I can manage. Wish me luck. Thanks.

good luck dp! i live in dc and i would be more worried about the slow metro system than i would be about diapers. (they have been doing repairs)

we have plenty of public restrooms and a lot of single occupancy bathrooms (all of the starbucks are single occupancy and we have PLENTY of those.

trips with bladder issues can most definitely be anxiety inducing but try to have as much fun as you can. its good that your travel companions know of your issues. that makes things a LOT easier. safe travels!

I'm not sure a road trip is the best time to go without protection. That's when an accident will be most difficult to deal with.

This past June, my wife and I drove more than 4,000 miles on an extended vacation from Pennsylvania to Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas, before returning home. The weather was hot, and I dehydrated. But it was a successful journey, in every way. You can do it; you really can. Pack wisely; inquire about handicapped restrooms at every opportunity, and enjoy yourself.

Take your diapers with you and wear them. Your anxiety will be much lower that way, whether you use them or not. It will be much easier than trying to map out all the restrooms in a strange town. I spent last weekend visiting colleges with my son, and it was so much easier wearing my "restroom".
