Yesterday I had my latest urologist appointment to decide what course of action I should take. I have a very large bladder according to him. My urodynamic results showed that I voided over 700ml. at the end of the test, but still had over 400ml. left in my bladder. He indicated that surgery would be the only thing left since none of the meds worked or caused side effects. He also said that the surgery would really not help my incontinence issues, and could make them worse. He really didn't think I should pursue that course of action at this time. I told him that I am pretty used to wearing diapers. I can have a fairly normal, productive day managing in this way. He said quality of life is the main thing to consider which is different for all of us. I was pleased with this young mans demeanor, and how I was treated. So, if everything goes well I will see him in a year. Next for me on the medical agenda is my yearly physical next week. I will see how my mitrol valve prolapse, spinal stenosis, and glucose numbers are doing. Isn't getting old a blast? I was 69 on the 10th.

Thanks, Batman. You know what, my name is Dennis. At this point living with a variety of mostly age defined health issues, using a code name isn't of real concern to me. So, if anyone wants to reply to any of my posts in the future, you can use my real name. Thanks.

No problem Dennis, its Bruce here. I have placed it a few times on other post in the past. Although I am not named after Batman, His name is my first and middle name. I get to blame my problems on a mini-stroke I had years ago along with some other issues I have been having. I have to tell myself if this is all I suffered from that stroke than I should count my blessings.

Dennis,

At least you have a good diagnosis and now know what is going on with your bladder. Your urologist sounds very practical. Mine was the same way. As I also am bowel incontinent, he accepted the reality that I would be wearing a diaper regardless of what he did.

Re age, an older friend of mine said, "Old age is not for wimps!" :D So true.

Dennis,
I like the down to earth approach he is using. Good luck on your next doctors visits and by the way Happy Birthday.

You know I actually believe most urologists get this, except they all think wearing diapers must be horrible for us. If you can get them to understand that freely peeing into a diaper (for you if that's what you want) will actually improve your quality of life, then they will be much more willing to help in this regard.

Well, Brian, I guess peeing into a diaper is not what I really want. I'm not sure of anyone that would really want this. However, sometimes the alternative; surgery in my case could/would make things worse. So, until matters change I will manage as I am.

I can certain respect that. What I meant was there certainly is A LOT of worse things in this life than peeing in a diaper. Whether or not anyone decides to go this route, it all comes down to what they can live with, and what they can not. (ie. quality of life). Getting a doctor to agree with what ever that decision is, is always a challenge for anyone (it seems).
