Heading home after visiting a client in LA. Changed a very wet diaper in a hotel restroom after leaving for the day.  Little did I know the usual 30 minute trip to the airport would be closer to 90 with traffic today, so my fresh diaper was not so fresh after the drive and 3 iced teas at lunch.  The wet diaper triggered the nudie scanner and after being told I needed to be patted down in a "personal" area, I told him I was wearing a diaper. We were both mortified.

As much as I hate the TSA and security theater, the screener was professional and did what he had to do as discreetly and quickly as he could.

I suppose the moral to this story is change your diaper, even if it's just a little wet, before going through the nudie scanner.

Yep try to be as dry as possible. Good to hear it was handled professionally. Safe travels.

That went rather well compared to some stories I have read about, leaves most incon folks terrified ot the TSA check points, they should all be like this, no worries, part of life, move along... :) Puffy

Just an extra FYI/FWIW: I too try to be as dry as possible before a TSA screening. However, that is not always possible. So when I'm not dry, there is one more option available: "to opt out". You can request to not go thru the "nudie" scanner by requesting to opt-out. They will force you to go thru the metal detector and/or endure a cursory pat-down. But for me, that's better than setting off a wet spot alarm and then being groped in the groin (gee and I only thought this happened in totalitarian regimes!).

ILuvLA.

True. But I honestly wasn't thinking about it when I went through. Otherwise I probably would have.

While i too try to be at least somewhat dry, I've had the misfortune to be in such a rush that my diaper was absolutely soaked when I went through the scanner. Of course I was patted down, but nothing was said about it by either of us, and the guard quickly let me through.

As long as you don't make a big deal about it, then it won't be a big deal.

Last fall, I ran into a similar issue at a TSA checkpoint. I was wearing an Abena Abri-San 7 pad inside an Abena Abri-Fix fixing pant, covered by a GaryWear PUL brief. I used the restroom before entering the security line...my pad was dry at the time. However, the body scanner detected some "bulk" on one side of my groin, as the pad apparently became bunched on that side. I was pulled aside for a pat down. The airport was extremely busy at that time (Saturday morning on Labor Day weekend) and the TSA checkpoint was severely understaffed. As a result, the wait for a private pat down would have been very long as there were other private pat downs in progress (with others waiting). Hence, I consented to the pat down at the checkpoint. The screener was professional and courteous, and the pat down took about 30 seconds. Given the circumstances, I did not declare the incontinence pad.

Moral of the story: if your incontinence protection is not detected due to wetness, it may be detected due to bulk. It depends on how sensitive the body scanners are set and on how "picky" the TSA is on a given day.

Since then, I've switched to diapers due to heavier urge incontinence that the Abri-San pads can't absorb. When I fly again, I'm debating as to whether or not to declare the diaper before entering the body scanner.

Hi Mike,
Declaring won't change the scan report. The person in the basement who views the unedited images cannot hear you. I just keep my diaper status to myself and let them grope me if they feel the need. Only if my groper asks will I admit to wearing "protection".
