We don't slow down in the summer that's when it goes insane
. The guys will work 10-12 or more hours a day during the week and one Saturday a month. Sometimes they even come in on Sundays BUT we never ask or require any of them to work on Sunday that's completely up to them. ..............Sandy

Hi Sandy
I didn't know you lived so close to the lake. I live about 20 min south of the lake. My wife, myself and our kids love to go boating on the lake, and we are at the beaches several time in the summer months. hence the hobiecatguy name. I know we all can't wait for this region weather to let up and warm weather to finally arrive.

I haven't been on a Hobie cat since I was a kid! Those things are a blast. I grew up on Sailboats My Family always had big sailboats on the Great Lakes When I was a little girl I remember we did have a little 22 foot Catalina I think it was? and after that for a number of years we had a 25 or maybe it was a 27 I can't remember Cape Dory then in 1978 we went and got a new Pearson 323 My parents had that boat until the middle 90's when they finally broke down and bought a new Tartan 38 Which they just sold Last year and bought a Nordic Tug. They are in their 70's The sailboat was getting to be a little to much for them to handle. My Husband and I have a number of boats. Mostly vintage runabouts/ski boats We have one 25 foot powercruiser that we use on Lake Michigan When we have time but the last few years that one hasn't been used much(no time)

Wow you must have had a blast during the summers of your younger days. We try to keep the bottoms wet, but whats hobieing without getting wet. My dream is to own a 60'+ sailboat to sail in the west and southern carribean some year. I could live on the sea, but my wife is more of a land lover, so we agree to let me sail to islands while she flys to the next port. The kids are all sailing junkies. I could never buy a boat that runs exclusively on fuel, my lord the fill up would cost a fortune. we have owned a few watercraft over the years, I found it less expensive to not own any more, besides the hobie is so much fun.

Yes sailing is fun but sometimes it can get old when all you want to do is get there! My husband was never much for sailing. He's been on my parents boats a few times and was a good sport about it. I think he enjoys it when the boat is healed over the waves are running 4-6 feet the spray is coming over the deck well you get the picture. But it's not always like that. So we are into the power cruisers Your right about gas it can be expensive but on the other had it's really not all that bad with our 25 footer at cruising speed 32-35mph we use (give or take) about 7 gal. an hour. We have Ski boats that when run hard can use the same or more in the same amount of time. I would say we spend allot more time anchored or docked depending on the situation then we use to. Which is fine with me There is something nice about getting away even if it's just to lay back and relax on a boat in the middle of nowhere ........Sandy

Just bit of a clarificatiion for Sandy... "cigarettes" are the long thin power boats that were/are used for smuggling cigarettes. They are usually over 30' long and have 2 or 3 big big V-8 gas motors. They are very quick.

Yes we have two sitting here that they are trying to finish up yet. I think one is around 32 feet long the other has got to be at least 38 feet. These two are both the Actual brand name Cigarette. Expanding on what rick said Cigarette Has become a generic name for a style of high performance boats. But there is an actual brand name as well called Cigarette. As rick said they have big V8's most of the time and often times will have Super Chargers on them. some can have up to four engines. We've never had them with more then three and I think only one last year had three most are twins. They are very loud I've often wondered if you could shatter a pain of glass if you set it behind the boat when the guys do a Dyno test on them. I know for a fact that you can here them several miles away on water. .............Sandy
