Hello again, I was looking over the forum posts and the total views of the posts. I have noticed that there are just a handful of posters. Like it has been said before, those that have found solutions have moved on. What I was wondering though is how many folks are using this site either as members or guests. I find it odd that with the huge number of people dealing with incontinence that there seems to be so few people that read this site. I was looking for a site that dealt with incontinence as a real medical issue. Not some kinky fantasy site. It seems this is the only site around that hasn't fallen into the kink realm. it's really nice to be able to post and read without the annoyance of those recreational folks. I'm not berating them, it's just that I'm not looking for entertainment with my incontinence. Just some support and education.
Anyone have any ideas as to how many people really use this site? Thanks Ted

Ted,

Good observation. Totally agree about the numbers.

Schoppy might be able to tell us how many "lurkers" are here in a month.

Personally, I think that those with only light incontinence usually move on after learning enough to cope with their milder problems.

However, I also think that many with more serious incontinence who could or should participate here are too embarrassed to do so for fear that their public discussion of their incontinence could be linked back to them. :( That is particularly sad as many of those probably are the ones who most need to participate actively here. As we have learned, the recently incontinent usually are the most nervous about it.

Of the general population, consider how many are in denial about their incontinence and even refuse to use the word "diaper."

Remember too that some older seniors lack the online skills to search for and find this group. A simple Google search might produce a link to one of the less serious incontinence sites or even one of the fetish sites that would be a big turnoff for most seniors.

What do you all think about this?

I am one who posts occasionally, mostly because my questions have been answered. I have found that there is little wisdom I can add when others post, so I remain silent. I do participate in another group as well, which is run by a vendor (Kimberly Clark) and the majority of those people have more mild ic than we do.

I too am one who posts occasionally, mostly due to same reasons as WetDad has stated above. However, with that being said, I will post if I feel I have something to contribute that may be useful. I have suffered with this disability for some time now, 25+ years, and believe that those new to this condition will do the needed research to assist themselves and mostly move on. I keep checking in with sites such this to stay on top of new procedures, products and possible treatments and also share the same information once i am able to confirm it's accuracy. I am thankful for this site and all it has to offer. I only hope that one day a cure for all types of incontinence and sits like this will no longer be needed.

Happy New Year to all.... :)

Dave

I dont have the numbers handy, but I know there are a lot of people that just come here to read the articles and never register on the site.
When we started this site we discussed weather to have the site available to everyone or only members. We figured out that there are a lot of people that are too ashamed about their incon problems so we decided to make it totally open to everyone. Now only members can post messages but its still totally open for everyone to read.

As far as how many people that this site has helped? No one really knows, but if this site has helped even one person a month, then its well worth the investment and time.

I guess I may be among the more frequent posters. I hope that I have been of assistance.

Although our society has come a long way towards the acceptance of disabilities, it still has a long way to go. And, even among family and friends, folks who frequently mention their incontinence could soon become tiresome. Nevertheless, the need to manage incontinence dominates the lives of incontinents. This site keeps me from becoming tiresome for my family and friends. And, the medical examinations and treatments for incontinence are embarrassing, unfit topics for polite conversation. Here, however, coming to terms with the things the medical folks do to us is a large part of why we're here.

My doctors call me an interesting patient, which is not a compliment. Many of my symptoms, such as ataxia, hearing loss, collapsing, and nausea, cannot be hidden. Incontinence, however, is out of sight, and therefore out of mind for them, even though they have lived with me through my urological surgeries, watch me launder my diapers, and monitor my food and medications. They shake their heads in wonder and exasperation every time one of my specialists orders yet another intrusive exam. So, from time to time, I need to vent, and venting here keeps me in better terms with my family than it would if I were to force it on them.

So, I thank Schoppy and all the rest of your here.

Patrick

^ This: +1 times infinity. :)

Schoppy can probably tell you, I'm here daily. Just that I'm not a heavy poster, does not mean I'm not here.
As for the undesirables, many of us can easily tell those in how they post, and we make sure the forum staff are aware of them, to deal with them.
I'm pretty sure that the staff are happy to know that this site is staying clean, like meant to be. :)

I have been helped immensely thanks to this site. It quickly let me know I am not alone and gave me pointers on how to handle and prepare for different situations. I saw a post on another site I used to frequent and decided to look that user name up which is how I found this site. Kudos to the other site, but it was not cutting it like this site does.

I constantly return through to read others situations or problems and put in my opinions. For the most part, I have become at ease with my condition. I still don't blast it to the world or discuss it with family or friends unless I have to. As Patrick said, this is not something covered during polite conversation, so this is a great place to come and talk about what your feeling are ask questions.

The admins are quick to disable an account that is against what this forum is meant for and for that I am very thankful.

I try and post as must as I can. We have all been through so much, and yes I have moved on and accepted this is who I'm now. Before becoming incontinent I would have never dream this is were I would have landed. John was the first read I had here and knew this was a place to help and vent if needed. Thank you to all the Moderators that try and keep the crap out of our group !!

The Depend forum (Kimberly-Clark) was somewhat okay before they trashed it a couple of years ago after it got hacked. Now, IMO, it appears to cater to people who function at a borderline fetish level. At its best, the forum did not allow unfavorable comments as to the Depend product line, or favorable comments on competitors' products. Lori@Depend, are you watching??
