Didn't phase anyone I've told either.

I think that there is such a programmed stigma, from childhood, against wearing diapers, that we assume people with look down on you for incontinence. The reality is that, by the time you're an adult, everybody assumes that you would be continent if you could help it. It's an unfortunate circumstance, rather than something to be embarrassed of.

Hey MSU, I 100% agree with you. Being a child that grew up in the 50/60s it was a race to see who's children were potty trained first. Bragging rights for moms was pretty important back then. This potty competition brought some pretty draconian tactics down on the kids. First came the "big boy" conversation. Next came the "disappointment" phase. After that came the spanking and anger. Then, the one that brought lasting harm to way too many kids, the "shame and humiliation" phase. Diapered and put on display for all to see your failure. Several of us kids in our family were treated to this. I have to say, it was effective. Unfortunately the emotional scars are still with me - and I'm in my sixties....

I can assure you (as a parent of a young child) that mommy wars are still in full effect, but it's super compartmentalized. The goals they're competing for are different for "traditional" patents, vs. "Attachment" parents, vs. "green" parents, etc. Some parents are rushing to get their kids out of diapers, and attachment parents might be bragging that their child is still in diapers, because that's a demonstration of their patience as a parent.

It's a mess. It's hard to figure out what's legit, and what's just a fad or fanaticism.
