There are lots of people who need help with changing of the diaper I certainly have had help at times. It is something you get used too but will probably never be totally at ease with. I must admit I don't know if it's beter with a close family member or with a complete stranger as in a hospital setting.
I have had help with changing in hospital a number of times and it had been ok.

Wetters, you seem to be awfully haphazardly critical and judgmental- have you been having many awful mornings lately?
Just as there are a plethora of reasons why someone must wear diapers or is imcontinent,
There are also good many reasons why someone needs help changing.
From mental or physical handicaps, temporary, progressive, "semi-permanent" or permanent- they may hinder one from the capacity to change oneself effectively.

Hi there

Yes it can be hard on me when I change myself I have to attend hospitals sometimes and yes the staff there do help me if I need it I find it very embarrassing at times but all I know I can't help it. My parents always changed ask I was younger I found that too very emotional and embarrassing but I know they were just looking after me and careing about me thanks for all you messages.

As an adult male with enough medical issues that my doctors refer to me as an interesting patient, I frequently need assistance with incontinence management. Too often the trade-off has been either to accept assistance or endure a flaming diaper rash. I guess, for some, the assistance of parents would be reassuring. However, the highest priority for me is my independence. Avoiding embarrassment comes in a close second.

Hey, can we not go on the attack here? I know Wetters very well from this forum and she is not the type of person to directly attack anyone. I'm sure she was just expressing an opinion (which is what this forum is all about.) And I also read in another post where she disagreed with you on something you said. We are allowed to disagree here. It just seems to me like your comment quoted above is more attacking than it needed to be. And sorry if I'm reading it wrong. Just my opinion.

Once a year I am admitted into the VA "regional" Spinal Cord Center in CA for a week as a inpatient so they can check me out from head to toe and do an annual evaluation. This is very helpful to my overall healthcare, but sometimes I have to travel a long distance to get there causing sever stress to my back. Once I arrive I'm in good hands but it usually takes 3 days before my back returns to normal. Until then, any moment to my back causes severe pain. From what I understand, this is very common for my type of back injury, and the nursing staff helps me change the diaper during those time of need. From what I've been told, changing diapers in a hospital Spinal Cord Injury ward is nothing new to the medical staff, and they are VERY professional about how they do their job. I'm sure anyone that is incon that has stayed in the hospital has probably had similar experience. The only advise I can make is always take your own diapers if you know your going to be a inpatient.

I am not at all haphazardly attacking anyone nor making disparaging and inappropriate remarks- that is quite unbecoming of behavior on a support forum!
I am however wondering why wetters seems to not be that understanding about other people's conditions, disabilities, anxieties and such- especially for claiming to be
a longtime member here....
Secondly wetters remarks are quite disparaging. I believe most everyone here already has MORE THAN ENOUGH shame, humiliation, stress, anxiety and disgust they are going through
and have gone through- especially the OP nicbar here.
What is the whole point of saying "ewwww" on a support forum for incontinence folks..... particularly when you yourself are or have been incontinent?.... that is a hypocritical lack of empathy, concern and consideration- especially when you then expect to have empathy, concern and consideration in turn!

As an aside, No person is entitled to an "opinion"- they are only entitled to what they can defend with their honesty and integrity. Please see this post http://theconversation.com/no-youre-not ... inion-9978

I don't want to rustle any feathers. I deeply respect everyone here- and that is why I hope we may all share in being considerate, patient, and empathetic towards one another.
Each and every one of us has our own history, our own problems, issues, goals, and desires. I wish that we may all act in good faith towards each other.
Thank you

-Star

ps. This is why I am asking if Wetters has been having bad mornings lately.

John- I am sorry about your back pain. I remember last year following my crash that many times I would have to endure long car rides - to doctors, therapies and clinics, etc. Even the smallest bumps would cause my back to shoot up in pain. And many times my legs would feel kinda weaker afterwards. there was even one time i dribbled bit in my pants. Some doctors and nurses can be quite caring and others.... lets just say a good many of these bumpkins lack decent bedside manners.

Have you been able to get any pain management for your back?
