Rope,

Add my best wishes for the speedy, and positive, resolution of your difficulties.

K/C (makers of Depend) have far more leverage, both socially and commercially, than we ever will. I'm just selfish enough to be eager to take advantage of everything they do to attack the stigma that we all feel. However, I do not seek notoriety with enough energy to permit myself to participate in their publicity campaign. They'll have to do it without me.

Sorry to hear about everything going on in your life rope. Hope you get it straightened out.

I'm curious how Depend found you. That certainly would take some courage to go forward with that, I know it couldn't do it, at least not for free. Either they'd have to pay me with money, or make a diaper that DOESN'T suck and give me a yearly allotment!

I actually wrote to Kimberly-Clark and told them that they need to be more realistic with their approach and that expecting people to "out" themselves and show their diapers willingly to the world was just wrong and that it not only adds to or down right causes humiliation, but it has the potential to make the already unnecessary stigma worse, despite their best of intentions.

In my opinion though.. Depends, no matter which of their products you refer to, are the worst incontinence products even on the market, and i will never again even contemplate buying them.

I have taken the opposite tack and actually encouraged Depends (KC) to make us incons "normal" in their adverts. In my thinking, we will be less stigmatized if more people simply know about our condition. For example in Japan, incontinence is a normal part of aging and is accepted as normal.

BTW, even though I am active in a KC market research forum, I will not use their products because of their ineffectiveness and regularly remind them of this. Someday, they may finally listen to what I am saying. After all, they did do the Underwareness campaign.

Yes WetDad, I agree that what they are doing to achieve universal acceptance of having to wear diapers as being, a "normal" way of life, for people like us, but having the audacity to have us "flaunt" our diapers around... thats a different story. anywhere you go, it may obviously not be illegal to wear REGULAR underwear either... but walking around with - no pants - is still regarded as indecent, diapers or not. Having said that, theyre approach is all wrong. Despite their products' ineffectiveness compared to every other diaper on the market (even Attends, which are also horrible imo), parading around I would never do. For the record, I am not the LEAST bit afraid if someone discovers i have a diaper on. Thats the idea they, (KC), should try to show their support around. No one wants to see a grown adult without pants, out in public.

I have talked with nurses and some of my friends about this and like here it has mixed reviews. I also talked with my wife about it. I think this target people like her that cant laugh ,cough, run or jump on a trampoline without wetting , this doesn't apply to most all of us . I wouldn't make it out of the drive if I was wearing a depends product. It no different than seeing a man or a women wearing underwear on T.V. At least it is bring awareness to there is a lot a people out there that has this problem. It did come as a shock because, I spend a lot of time tiring to find new ways to hind my diaper.
