After reading Joe's post I was reminded of something that happen many years ago. I was at a family get together I think it was for Christmas over 20 plus years ago. My grandmother was still alive back then she had to wear diapers full time. Well anyway I think everyone for the most part knew about it but of course never said anything.
But anyway my brothers and sisters kids were all there. And you know how little kids are when they want your attention. They like to pat you on the leg or worst yet the butt :? Well anyway a couple of the kids every so often would pat grandma on the butt and that plastic was loud and clear  We all thought it was kind of funny. Of course we all acted like we never heard a thing. But you could see Grandma was very embarrassed  .......................... :D Sandy

Hi the subject of sound when wearing a diaper is always a problem especially to new diaper wearers at least was to me started wearing tight fitting underware over them and also the newer ones don't make as much noise as the older ones. But it would be bad if a child ask about the noise.

Having had to deal with diapers for about 10 years now I have tried so many types of diapers and have had some that, to my ears, sounded so loud I was sure I could be heard a city block away. Some disposables are far louder than others and the loud ones seem to be the cheaper made ones. I have since gone to some of the better brands that are quieter but also use a thing cloth diaper over the top of the disposable to catch any leaks and then put a plastic or rubber pant over the top of that. It is not very thick; it is not loud at all and I never leak. Best of all, I know no one can hear my protection even in a quiet hall at work.

If you read my other posts I was very hung up on this but Paul and Sandy have helped alot. The bulk is what gets me worried. That and if I may go somewhere for a long time with other people. For example some of my friend may go on a a vaction together for a few days this summer. If I go they might notice. I sometimes worry that some people may have noticed but not said anything. On the other hand, this solution has been better than the alternative, which will definitely get you noticed.

Hi Schoe!
Thanks for your post! Your ideal about wearing a thin cloth diaper over your disposable diaper with a pair of plastic pants is probably done by a lot of people. I use to use those cloth backed disposable but have switched back to the plastic backed. Having the peace of mind that the cloth diaper is there to catch any leaks is great.
LtsofQues asked about the bulk. It really depends on what disposable diaper you're using and the thin cloth diaper. I would like to know what Schoe uses for his added protection. I use some pull-up cloth diapers that are a little thinner than most that I got from AC Medical. But you're right, LtsofQues, the bulk of all this could be a problem. When you get ready to plan your short get-a-way with your friends, many of us on this site would be able to give you some good suggestions. Thanks again, Schoe, for you post. Don't stay away so long next time. .........Paul Martin

The way I get around the noise problem when using disposable diapers is: use a good quality or at least a better quality disposable (Abena, Molicare, etc.), cover that with, this is key, a single ply cloth diaper with a few layers of absorbancy down the middle and up the back (pin ons, snap ons seem to work best), cover all that with a comfortable pair of plastic pants and presto! No more noise. There are a lot of cloth diapers out there that are fantastic for around the house or going to sleep but during the day, if you wish to be discrete, you have to do a bit of looking for the right product. Some of the day cloth diapers for sale are way too thick, unless that is all you wish to use, but since I can sometimes tell when I have to go, I do not need a lot of layers in the day. The cloth diaper dampens the noise of the disposable. Do not get the cloth type that have waterproof backing on them. Whatever gets by the disposable may initially get by the cloth and will get caught by the plastic pant and absorbed shortly thereafter by the cloth diaper. Since I am up and down and moving around a lot I do not need much protection on the sides and the cloth diaper will "scruntch up" between the legs and provide good absorbancy in that area. As a system it works very, very well.

I have mentioned before that I may be getting the industrial molicares as a precaution for when I have to take long tests or quizzes at school. Depend refastenables are mostly invidisible butt they do have a little padding which is fine. However if I use the molicares they are obviously more padded. This is a major concern. If I wear this I'm afraid its going to be very stuffy and look like I have a big butt which I definitely don't. It's one thing if you wear this everyday and you may run into people who assume this is how you look normally. It's another thing if you wear it sometimes or switch to it and then on some days you have no butt and then all of a sudden all this extra padding. It's either going to look like you gained weight overnight in the back or your wearing a diaper. I know this may sound funny but its a serious concern for me. Even if I tried to say I gained weight it won't happen overnight plus I usually only gain weight in my stomach. So far I haven't run into anyone I know at school but you never know. This is a concern for me even with the refastenables around friends or relatives. I think it would be more obvious if this wasn't the case with my shape. But it could be obvious since it does fill out my jeans a little, that people you know notice your racing to the bathroom all the time, don't come out for a long time, and them show up one day with a behind you never had before. Sometimes I think people may have noticed this about me but not said anything, because it would be innapropriate. I know this may seem hilarious but I bet I'm not the only one who's thought about it.

When I use the Molicare diaper I tend to go with one of the thinner Molicares, that way when I put the cloth diaper over that it is not so noticeable and I do not have the "bubble butt" look. If you cannot use the system I do then you have no other alternative. There are some of the Abena disposables that are very absorbent yet are not really thick. I know this from first hand experience. I have more than once, due to my work schedule, been stuck in the same diaper for 6 to 8 hours. Of course by that time I am pushing the limits on them but I still had no leaks and no one knew what I had on. There is on the other hand a very radical way to hide wearing diapers. It involves having part of your buttocks removed and in this way thicker diapers can be worn without notice. Like I said, it is a radical idea. Sorry, I just had to throw that in there.

LstofQues,
I really believe thre are many other disposable diapers out there that would give you adequate protection for your testing period. A real good diaper I use to use was the Tena Ultra. It is cloth backed and it held alot for me. With the cloth back, it's noiseless. You can get a sample of this diaper, along with a lot others through HDIS. I recently tried there samples and I found a good alternative to the Tena I use to use.
For me, the full Molicare would last me for 6 to 8 hours easy.
Check HDIS out. They have a huge line of pill-ups and full brief type diapers. .........Paul Martin (Thanks for your comment, too, Schoe!)

I didn't know there were thinner molicares. I don't have the bubble but look either, but since I really don't have a butt I can look at that as an advantage as making room for the pullup without much notice. It's just that I thought people who knew me might notice the difference since I notice it in how my pants fit. It's all about finding the positives! I worry that with something belted that you can see the crease on the sides or it might begin to droop. I will just have to try and see what works. I have a hope that when I go to the doctor they will find a quick fix and this will all be a memory. How likely is that?
