Hey all,

Question for you all.. I have a friend of mine who knows about my incontinence, and he asked me one day if he bought a bag of diapers, and wrapped them up and gave them to me as a gag gift if that would be funny or offensive.. I replied that it would be awkward, because my parents would be with me, and I'm not sure if they know my firend is in the know about my incontence.. that got me thinking.. is it appropriate to recieve diapers as a Christmas gift? Is it appropriate to ask for them for a Christmas gift? After all, people give underwear for Christmas gifts.. diapers are our underwear. I later told my firend that, if he wanted to buy some extended wear diapers for me and give them to me in private between the two of us.. that would actually be very much apprecaited, because they are expensive. But, i would feel really akward opening a gift in front of my parents..that contains diapers... especially since my grandmother will be with us on Christmas morning. I remember reading that somene's wife bought them several cases of protective underwear for a gift..and they were grateful. On the one hand, it would be a very thoughtful gift, since we all know how expensive diapers can be..and recieving them for a gift saves us from having to buy them ourselves, but on the other hand, if we are with family, and family are present.. it can be really akward and embarassing especialyl if they don't know about the situation..and we don't want them to know..

What say you all??

Peace out!

Rob

In my opinion, I would say very awkward. It's great to have a friend you trust enough to tell about your condition, but to unwrap a present in front of people may not only be awkward for you but also to those around you.

IMHO something like an Amazon.com gift card, with the tacit understanding that it will be used for diapers, would be o.k. The diapers themselves would not.

Thank you for your replies.. and my profound APOLOGIES to my friends who may have been shocked or out off or offended by this question. As some of you may or may not know, in addtion to incontinence, i also suffer from a double dose of ADHD and PDD-NOS. Which in a nutshell means due to different brain wiring, i am not as in tune to social nieceties and social norms as would the ordinary, "neurotypical" person would be. It was not my intetnion to offend. I agree with all of you that recieving them would be totally awkward.. and would probably NOT appreciate recieving them directly for a gift with family and friends present. But if someone were to get me a gift card for the use of diapers and that was unsaid and discreet.. that would actually be a most appreciated gift. PB&J32, i profoundly apologize for leaving your feel awkard... I have sometimes difficulty knowing how my actions and words may be interperted due to the aformentioned difficulties...

Peace out!
