If I had been asked this question I would have said that I really have confidence in Priva flat prefolds. They are easy to use, very absorbant, comfortable, long lasting and inexpensive. The trouble is Priva no longer manufactures them.

I got on the internet to try and find a new product to buy. First of all I was really surprised at the prices! Some upwards of $40.00!! Before I pay that kind of money I will learn to sew and make my own.

I need advice and recommendations. I am looking for a product that I can use every day and night that essentially meets my the stand set by Priva in their now discontinued diaper.

You input will be greatly appreciated as I am need of placing an order soon.

Terry

I agree with you that the flat type pre-folds are a great diaper. I have three different brands I'm using now. I have one left from Angelfluff diaper that's lasted a long time. It's flannel. I bought it so long ago, I don't know what it would cost now. I bought a flat prefold from Protex and it's a good cheap flat type prefold that's not too bulky. Great for daytime, but you'll have to booster it up for night to go through the night without changing.
My favolrite is the gauze flat diaper from Adult Cloth Diaper(ACD). It's good for day and night. Very soft and absorbant. Right now they are having a 15% off sale on their cloth diapers thru the end of the year. I just ordered 6 of their night time medium for about $22.00 a piece. I really like them. Hope you have some luck with this advise! .....Paul Martin

I totally understand the importance of a quality cloth diaper, but some of those quality store bought ones are expensive, and still not be absorbant enough to make it all night without stuffers. I started to make my own about 10 months ago, and the best part of it is that I can make a great quality, thick, absorbant diaper that will allow me to sleep 8 hours without soaking the bed, and draining my bank account. If anyone has access to a sewing machine, have very basic sewing skills,(I had no sewing skills when I started, I just practiced with cheap scraps of material from the sewing store)you can make your own for less than $8.00 well worth the money.

Hobiecatguy has a great point.
When I first became incontinent many years ago, I didn't know much about the internet and suppliers were scarce back then. I went to the facric store and fornd a plentiful supply of cloth flannel. I made a few crude sizes and they worked! I guess you might have to experiment on getting the right size cut since the material will shrink up a lot the first couple of washings.
I think the sewing will come to you after trial and error. Good Point. Has anybody else out there made your own?.............Paul Martin

Paul,

Thanks for the info.I have seen that sale during my search. They do not give the demsions. I have bouth things before based on the sellers recommendations and felt they were to small. An example is Garys plastic pants. If I use the size recommended they are so tight! Can you give me the length and width of the diapers you ordered after several washings.

The Privas I have are 37" long and 35" wide. I have almost 7 dozen but mandy are getting very worn.

Terry,
The size I use from ACD is medium. The unwashed dimensions are 36" long by 27" wide. I've ordered 3 times on this diaper and the first time they were a little snug. The second time they were just right. The third time, they were a little snug again. Now I have a 36" waist. They say that size is good up to a 42" waist.
Now their large size is 40" long by 32" wide(unwashed). That size does sound a bit too big.
One other thing, Terry. Have you checked at HDIS? They are a link from this website, and I just checked, and they still list a cloth diaper by Priva. Look at their website and see if it's the same one. If the website is too vauge on it, you can call their toll free number. They're very nice there! I have ordered my disposables from them for many years. Let me know what you find out! ................Paul Martin

HDIS is where I have been buying them from. All they have in stock is medium the last I checked.

Terry,
Sounds like your're stuck with a new brand if the medium won't work that HDIS has.If that size best fits you(37" by 35") you may be stuck getting the large size from ADC. Their large is a little longer so you'll probably have some sagging in the middle. .......Paul Martin

Why don't you fellows watch EBay for cloth the ones I got off there were a fraction of the price as what you guys are looking at And I've been real happy with them so far. After many washings they're still holding up well. Sorry can't say what kind they are but they seem to work well.......Sandy

Sandy,
I'm not an expert on e-bay like you are. In fact I've never ordered anything off e-bay. Just call me old fashion. I've bought products I like from these suppliers and I trust what I'll get will be up to my expectations. You have a good point though, and most likely will get a good deal. I prefer the old way.
And I do know some like the adventure of finding a bargin, and you're one of them. ...........Paul Martin
