I've been dry for a month

Sun Dec 20, 2009 7:58 pm

Much to my amazement, I have been dry for four and a half weeks. I am back in boxer briefs and have had no accidents what so ever. I went Christmas shopping today and had been out for a few hours. I stopped at an Office Max for a print cartridge. I was pushing my cart down the aile and all of the sudden I peed in my pants. Not a small spot, oh no, it was like the flood gates opened and I soaked the front of my jeans.

I pulled my sweat shift down as far as I could, quickly paid for my stuff and ran for my truck. I guess I was over confident in my thinking that I was no longer required to wear a diaper. I mean I was mortified that here I am in this brightly lit store and I soaked my pants like a two year old.

Part of me wants to go back to wearing diapers full time once again while the other side of me wants to continue being dry. I have not had an issue until today. I am thinking of wearing a pull up for just in case but there was no way it would have prevented today's flood but going back to diapers just seems like I'm giving up.

Giving up....

JRB, that was good news up to the accident.....sorry about that aggravation. Incontinence, especially when "spotty" can be a lot tougher to handle than when it is constant and one knows one has to wear a diaper and that's all there is to it.

You enjoyed a month of control and got out of diapers, which is great, ofcourse! Wetting your pants suddenly out in public is a tough blow to take and I understand you don't want to give up and "go back" to diapers.

I urge you to wear pull ons just as you mentioned. They are ideal "just in case" protection. I feel they are more comfortable than a tape on diaper and remain comfortable until you wet them. You feared a pull on would not have helped your flood....but I question that! Sure, store brand pull ons (called underwear) that are on every store shelf are not adequate but pull ons you find on line are up to your needs. I recommend XPMedical for a good web site and look at the "heavy protection/overnight" pull on products. I rate Abena's pull on "overnight" tops followed closely by Medline's "extended wear / overnight" pull on.

To touch on cost, especially when the pull on most likely won't get use in your case except for rare instances, consider wearing cotton underwear like jockey shorts and wear the pull on diaper over that. If the day is dry, then the jockey shorts go in the wash and the pull on is saved for another day. The hygiene factor provided by the cotton underwear may allow use of the pull on for days before you feel it needs to be discarded for hygiene reasons. But at less than $2 per diaper, getting even three or four days out of one, cuts your cost to less than 50 cents a day....the cost of your "insurance" that you won't suffer the embarrassment of wetting your pants.

Cloth diapering may not appeal to you at all but I'd like to touch on it anyway, if I might. You (or anyone in your situation of control most of the time and seeking "just in case" protection) might consider wearing a good pull on cloth diaper pant. Covered with a breathable waterproof pant (not plastic pants) it can be very comfortable tho there will be some bulk so it won't feel like you are wearing normal underwear, but most won't find it objectionable. The unused cloth pull on gets laundered just like regular underwear so you feel fresh every day and no cost of tossing a disposable product. My picks are KINS for the pull on diaper and Changing Times Diaper Co for waterproof pants.

I used to occasionally go through a "dry spell" of sorts during the day where I'll go several days without wetting. I think I made it 10 days in a row once. The first couple of episodes I too went without wwearing diapers until I eventually soaked myself. Luckily this did not happen when I was out in public but still the same it was saddening. Any bladder control I might have had back then is is since gone. Nighttime is a different story. I have not had more than one or two dry nights a week for years so I always wear a diaper to bed.

I still hope and pray that someday I'll be able to regain control of my bladder along with regaining the feeling in the dead areas I have. Although I've been told this will never happen I still hold out hope. Stranger things have happened.

Thanks JoeK for the advise. I will look into the pull ons and possibly the cloth option as well and your idea of wearing cotton briefs is something I didn't think of until you brought it up. Merry Christmas!

I too have been dry! I still wear protection in public as a precaution and will do so until my current stock of diapers is used up..but as it is now i only change once a day and it is always dry when i change..things are STILL looking good! SUCH an unbelievavle relief! You don't know how good it feels to have dry, unrashy skin until you've expreinced it after a hellish year of incontinence and constant rash.. Those ppl who have no incon problems dont know how good they got it.. I will never look at bladder control the same way again..and ill never take it for granted.. I was scared silly at the idea of being incontinenent permanently, and part of me could never accept the fact that diapers were a part of me from now on..and I'm glad ive held on.

JRB, your unfortunate story is exactly why i will continue to wear in public for a while..making darn sure that my dryness is not a fluke! I congratulate you on your dryness.. May it last longer next time!

I'm back in diapers since my accident on Sunday. Everything is back to normal, (Wetting). However I am trying to be positive here. I mean I was actually dry for a whole month so there is renewed hope but for now just change. Sorry for that one it was a bad political joke, See I'm taking the return to diapers in stride!

yes it bites but I have to look at the big picture that I could have it a lot worse. At least I have the full support and understanding from my wife Deb.

JBR, Sorry for the short lived dry spell. As you said things could be a lot worse. Great that you have a supportive and understanding wife. Keep your chin up, there may be another day, time, and even for a longer period that you will be able to stay dry.
