I.. did it again.   I went out to the mailbox to check to see if I had any diaper samples initiated by my worker at UPHP.. and I felt the need to poop. I thought, no problem.. I'll just poop when I get back to the house. Only.. it was one of those poops where the rectum was FULL.. and it was quite persistent. I'm like nope, im not going to just poop in the diaper. I actually want to try to make it to the toilet. I got upstairs and was almost to the bathroom when i felt myself pushing.. its like whats going on here? It was like an automatic process. I know that the bowel does do that if the bowel is full enough to avoid rupture..similar to how the bladder automatically empties when it reaches critical. However, with the bowel, it is harder to interuppt and run to the bathroom quickly. What concerns me is how I get to this point and don't have a clue on how full my rectum is. Most of the time, I feel stool pressing on the rectum, delaying defecation for a few minutes isn't a problem. I'm smart enough to not wait when I'm at work. But, what if I have one of those instsances where I need to poop really badly, but I cant because I have to clear an entire section of the parking lot to keep up with customer rush? Ugh. The last few times I saw a doctor they pushed metamucil and/or Mirilax. I dont mind doing that its just a matter of REMEMBERING to do it. Having ADHD and autism spectrum disorder, I think a lot of things are on the to do list but dont get done. I am wondering if I should ask for a referral to a specialist to test if I have the same thing going on in my bowel as I do my bladder. I think its more than just constipation. I think I should be aware of the need to defecate LONG before I reach the point where if I dont go poop within the next 10 minutes, I poop my pants. There's gotta be something more going on.

JD, since you have fecal incontinence caused by nerve damage, I would appreciate your input here.

Peace out!

Rob

I had this happen to me last summer in the middle of a large store. Except that I barely managed to take baby steps to the cashier and baby step to the car. Sitting in the car postponed the BM until I got home but just barely. But leaving the car, the BM continued in the driveway as an automatic process.

For me, it is mostly diarrhea. Taking fibre has thickened the stool enough that I can usually control it (at least for a while). When the stool is loose, I am armed and dangerous. If I give in just a tiny spurt, the body seems to take that as an open invitation to automatically push hard to get the rest out. It is the most distressing of feelings, since it leaves you helpless to control it. My U-IC is due to diabetic nerve damage and my F-IC is thought to be related.

The only thing aside from altering diet has been to use whole psyllium fibre. I've had to give up several foods, starting with coffee (a major contributor in my case). I have also had to give up cruciferous vegetables, apples and pears. These all cause me F-IC within a couple of hours. Best of luck.

Bowel incontinence can be the pits. I take Nullo or Devrom, and, with a capacious diaper I can manage a few moments in public following a bowel release. Those GI deodorants have saved me on several occasions, giving me precious time to find a place to wash and change.
