I am really struggling with a situation and don't know how others handle it.

With the cost of some diapers out there--and I have used Wellness, Abena, and others--and the lack of reusability for many of the tapes on the diapers, how do you handle (how do I say) the fecal part?

I am not fecal incontinent, but I have come close to using the diaper for that purpose because of cost, and once I get a diaper pulled down to use the toilet it just doesn't fit right when I pull it up.

What do you guys do?

Seems that is the main problem with the plastic backed ones, they for the most part tear when you try to refit or remove to you the bathroom, given you made it there on time! No real way around that, but the cloth backed style will refasten more then once, that is what I like about the Tena brand, not in them all day, but when I am, it is good to get to the bathroom and not worry about retaping problems. Anyone else know of a plastic backed diaper that retapes successfully without tearing? :?: Puffy

Hi inconguy
I'm guessing your not wearing Underwear over your diaper. If you were to wear a fairly snug pair of brief style underwear over your diaper this may solve your problem.

Generally speaking, if you are in diapers the medical community expects that you use the diaper for everything. However, for many of us this is undesirable.

My best advice to you is to increase your fiber intake (supplements are a good option), cut down on greasy foods and try to get on a bowel schedule.

Not trying for TMI here, but over the years I've gotten things down to where I can usually go once in the morning, after showering and once in the afternoon, when I get in from work and unless I eat something that disagrees with me I'm just fine. Another option that may benefit you, try sitting on the toilet for a few minutes every time you change, see if you can get any results that way.

I guess I have a slim butt and hips! I tape the diapers on and just pull them down over my hips without undoing the tapes. Once in a while the blue landing tape will tear off but not often. In that case I just use the white fastening tape to tape it back on.

I have never had a problem of pulling my diaper back up. If you are careful enough it will not tear and will come back up fine. You do not want to wear fecal waste. Trust me! I often soil my diaper with lack of fecal control and when I do, all I can think about is my next change a.s.a.p. because I can't stand to wear it. So if given a choice between tearing a diaper or soiling it, I choose to tear it. Clean up is a mess.

I never have to pull the diaper down. I wear abena products and they have a 2 tape system. There are 2 layers of tapes. One is blue and the other, the main tape, is white. When I initially put the diaper on, I apply the blue tapes where I want them. When I want to take it off, if by chance I make it to the toilet, i just undo the white tape and reapply it on top of the blue one. If that makes sense. The tapes are meant to be refastened. My point is, you don't have to pull them down. I think other brands have this same system.

For me with a more how should I say "hourglass shape" my waist is allot smaller then my hips. You might try leaving the top tapes somewhat lose and the bottom tapes tight. When I use to have more control I'd do this so I could pull the diaper down if I was able to make it to the restroom. Of course when doing this wear a snug pair of brief style underwear over your diaper to hold it in place  ...............................Sandy :)

I must have fairly slim hips - with most diapers I can pull them down to use the toilet and slide them right back up, though sometimes the fit suffers so I have to be very careful. Lately I have been using the Bambino's though, and they don't seem to be able to do that well - but they have a more "plasticy" front panel that the tapes can come off and on a few times without losing their stickiness.

I must confess though, sometimes I will just wet the diaper if I'm already in bed and have to pee (also because it's hard to get a leak-free fit a second time). I have such a hard time falling asleep that if I'm already tucked in it is worse to get up, rouse my mind back into more of a waking state, that it is to just use my diaper. I'm going to wake up wet anyway 90% of the time, so it's more of a big deal to lose out on sleep, for me. For #2 though, no way, no how. I would definitely not do that on purpose.
