Garry, it's perfectly reasonable, but the problem is, no one but you and I know what it means. If you use the term, you'll just have to explain it, and you're back to square one.

Not really sure a new "name" is what's needed. I mean, really - how many of us talk about what we wear under our pants when "out in publc"?

Even before i was incontinent - I never met a vendor, customer, friend or waiter and said "Hey - these tighty whities are really comfortable. Do you wear boxers or briefs?" or anything like that.

I've never talked to my friends about our underwear choices, so why should I worry about a new "name" to call what I wear now?

Not trying to be rude at all, but - I think people are over thinking things, here.

You are probably right, Michael, but people are always worried about people finding out that they are wearing nappies (diapers in the USA). I think this is, in part, the shame of being like a baby since the only experience most people have of nappies is for babies. One sees people posting about if the noise can be heard and so forth.

The fact is, as you bring out well, that people are really not in the last concerned with what we ear underneath our outer clothes and not even slightly interested in listening for that tell-tale rustle. When we meet people they want to talk to us and not discuss underwear, whilst people we pass have no interest in us at all. I may have made a joke about my wheelchair further up but, actually, it is not that far from the truth - people I know hardly notice the thing, unless I get stuck of course.

perhaps we could all relax more if we just used the name underwear, which is what it is, and got on with life.

I agree wheels5894. It is "just" underwear. I understand that Mormon's wear a certain kind for their religion. I have never heard anyone discussing it. I'm certain more people I run across wear a diaper, like I do. We still don't discuss it.

The only place it's ever discussed, is on a forum, such as this.

If anyone wants to call their underwear by an different name - fine. I don't see starting a movement to get it to become a commonly known term - because we still won't be discussing our underwear in public.

I do like your wheelchair comment above, though. That's pretty funny, and I'm glad to see you have a sense of humor, that you can make that joke.

Be well folks! And remember - underwear by any other name is - well - still underwear.

I went to my Gastroenterology doc recently and we were talking about my incon problems. I have bladder and bowel incontinence. We started to talk about my management of the problem and I told him that I use briefs. He said what? Like he had no idea what that was. I had to correct myself and tell him that I managed my condition with diapers and thats when he said "oh...ok". I guess he had never heard of the term briefs before. I thought it was kind of odd. All I can think of is that it has to do with where my doc is from. He is a younger guy, and I think he's from India. So maybe he just legitimately didnt know. It was weird.

We could take this slightly further. Can anyone ever remember discussing style of underwear people wear before they wore nappies? of course not! People don't discuss their underwear. So, there is no need for them to do now we wear various garments to stay dry etc.
