Just had a CT scan of my back as last year got diagnosed(after xrays) mild thoracic scoliosis (had physio) as well as anti flamatory for pain.

Well today had a CT of my back due to flare ups as well as ocassionally very painfull lower back the Dr's report says probable impingement of the exiting left L5 nerve root. Just wondering could this be causing my incontinence issues I'll be asking the same thing t my G.P when she gets back also have to wait about 3months for an Urologist appt

Thanks

Tom,
I think any of your doctors would know a back injury could definately be a cause of incontinece. There are so many nerves in the spine. Definately talk to your uroligist. He/She would have the best reasoning for that. .....Paul Martin

I was involved in a car/semi accident in 1998 in which I suffered multiple injuries including lower back injuries. I cannot control my bladder as a result of the injuries. There was damage to some of the nerves. I also lost feeling in areas of my legs. I am able to walk but cannot spend long periods of time standing. When my legs get strained from standing too-long they burn in the areas directly surrounding the dead areas and my left leg tends to drag. I've had a couple bad episodes since the accident where my back went completely out on me and I collapsed, once passing out from the pain. Most of the time my back feels pretty good and I remain active. I'm learning to lift things properly and I try to stay fit. I've learned to live with little to no bladder control and it isn't the end of the world. Things could have been so much worse.

PS I could do without the muscle spasms. They can go away any old time now.

Several years ago, a friend of mine got caught in a human stampede and was trampled on. Someone(s) jumped/ran over her low back and injured her lower spinal discs (alas, I do not recall which one). As a result of that trauma to her back, she lost the sensation of her legs and became incontinent. So she would answer the question as "yes".

Yes you can. I have total bladder and partial bowel incontinence due to a motorcycle accident that injured my lower back.
After 7 surgeries and I still leak with no control, so be very careful before you let the doctor cut away.
