I seem to get my best fit by putting on my diaper on the bed. I stand up (carefully on one leg with my stump on the bed for balance) and position it the way I want and then finish laying down. I don’t know why but i get a better fit doing this rather than putting the diaper on standing against the wall or on the floor. This doesn’t help when I’m out somewhere but at least I have a good fit at home. I’ve been using betterdry xl from xp Medical and they rarely leak. The case I got this month was wide open when I got it so now my FedEx driver knows I wear diapers. But other than that it’s all good.

I'm still trying to figure out my best method. I think I'm pretty good at standing up to change. I've only been doing this for a little while now though. Actually it's more of a struggle for me to try to change laying down, except when I'm wrapping up all of the cloth layers I've using at night.

When standing I can tape one side on the top and then pull it up snug to my waist and tape the other to side. If I do it with good concentration I usually get the thing pretty centered on my body and tight around my waist. Then I just tape the legs and I'm done. I can usually get this accomplished in about a minute.

A couple things:
I didn't read your post correctly the first time, about diapering with your amputation. Wondering if my comment sounded rude considering the intended context of your post. My apologies, good sir. (Slaps forehead)

Secondly, heck yeah! I too get a way better fit by laying down and putting my gear on. I just now discovered this. Was camping recently and had to change in a small tent, so I had no choice but to be laying down. I had avoided doing it this way because, well...it feels like I'm putting on a diaper. (That sounds silly, I know).

With laying down I seem to be able to get the thing underneath me, and around my thighs much snugger. Also, I can get the waist tight, and tucked, much neater and evenly. This is probably all common knowledge for everyone here but was an epiphany for me. I used to have a lot of leaks out the legs. With my improved routine I really don't need the extra cover pants and precautions I was doing. I haven't had a leak out of the diaper in over 2 weeks.

Just a thought I had, and made me think of this old post.

Thanks!

Kudos to both of you. We all have different disabilities and needs that must be addressed to achieve maximum protection. Taping a diaper on while standing up against a wall is especially threatening for me, although I do it when I must. My family, physical therapists, and several of my doctors want me to begin using a walker and/or a wheelchair, because of my ataxia. Perhaps I will, someday. But for now, I intend to do my best to function normally, and that means diapering up and getting on with life.

CityGardner - no offense taken! I had forgotten about this thread. I too get the best fit laying down although my diaper preferences have changed. If I’m at home I’ll still wear a betterdry but if I’m out I’ll wear a MegaMax either tie dye or black. I’ll probably switch to just MegaMax but I’m going through old stock of betterdry/crinklz and they are good for home. I like to keep my purchases at Northshore so once those two are gone I may get some supremes. Lately I’ve been in my wheelchair due to an infection on my amputated leg and I’ve had tons of doctors appointments. I don’t like changing in public so the MegaMax makes it so I can get through the day without changing. I have to plan my meals and coffee intake as my bowels are still an issue and luckily I have yet to have a bowel accident while I’m out.

Megamax is pretty good. I use those too when it might be some time before I can change. I'm usually good for a few hours with Abena if I can at least get to the bathroom at least 50%. Past couple weeks though I've had almost no control. I've actually lost alot of sensation, and have had some other weird nerve stuff. I have another round of brain scans coming up on Monday so we'll see I guess. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing like you dudes, and everyone else here.
