I have a paralyzed atomic neurogenic bladder. I have to start self cathing every 4-5 hours. I am NOT happy

Oh and the test itself was ok. It was uncomfortable and hurt a little but at least they were able to get the catheter in. They filled me up with 600ccs of fluid (apparently 400 should make a normal bladder spasm) and I felt no urge to go and he said my bladder didn't spasm once. Once he reached 600 he told the tech "ok you can stop now"

I agreed to try self cathing. If I get an infection or have trouble with it I will stop. I really do not want to do it.

ah, I should have read this one first,

I am sorry you have to go through that. :(. I hope it just becomes a routine like putting in contacts. Most of us had a difficult time touching the eyeball at first, but it grew easier. I hope this is the same.

Hahahah it's ok.

Thanks. I hope it just becomes routine too. I've decided to stay in my apartment for the weekend. I think I'm ready for Monday but it's still scary. Like I've said before I'll give it a shot but am not getting my hopes up.

Screw this. I couldn't get the damn thing in. The doctor said it takes practice but I don't know. She gave me a bunch of 2 types of catheters to practice with. The speedicath (I could have the name wrong.) And a pocket one. The speedicath is for Male anatomy but she said a lot of people with female anatomy like it. God I hope this gets better.

Prior to my prostatectomy/diverticulotomy, my urologist suggested that I try using a catheter to lessen the amount I was retaining. I was hesitant, but thought I would give it a try. About my 2nd or 3rd time, I got off track so to speak, and gave myself a very painful infection. I will NOT do this again. I feel that I am retaining more again even 14 months post surgery. Meds, don't work, cathertering is crazy, so I rely on diapers. I find them the most comfortable, and discreet form of management for me.

I'm gonna try again tomorrow, but for tonight I'm taking it easy and treating myself nice. My doctor said the risk of infection is greater if I don't cath. It just sucks
