My wife has bought me a day at aquatica with swimming with the Dolphins. I don't know how I am going to go there and be dry and then leak. I understand when I am in the water I am fine but what about when your walking around? From what I understand swim diapers are for poop not urine. How do I survive this and have a good time?

Hey there Army,

Not sure what the schedule will be for you but I use the SOSecure swim diaper and it works great. I only have UI so it holds urine very good. I can go about about 20 minutes with no leaking at all but I don't flood. I leak all the time so you will need to factor that in to the equation for yourself.
I have worn my to the beach and to a water park. The beach takes a little planning because I will need to get in about every 20-30 minutes but Ill do that, get water in the brief and then get out. When I get out, I'll break the leg elastic band to drain out the water and I'm good for another 30 minutes. When I'm at the water park as long as I am on one of the rides every 30 minutes there are no issues. Each time I get off the ride I'll drain the water and I'm good to go. The SOSecure should do just fine.

Its been a while since I last purchased a swim diaper, or worn one for that matter, but when I did it was ONLY effective in the containment of a BM, and NOT urine. Maybe things there is better protection available now, compared to just a few years ago, but I have my doubts and would be very cautious about any claims that a swim suit would protect from anything else except BM containment.

The only recommendation I can make is to buy whatever you feel will work the best, but I would ONLY buy a black pool diaper swim suit if possible. If possible wait until you arrive before changing into the swim diaper swim suit but jump in the water to get the swim suit wet as soon as possible. When you get out of the water to walk around the suit will obvious be wet so if you have any "small" amount of leakage it will blend in with already wet black swim suit.

I maybe wrong, but I don't think you will find a swim diaper/swim suit that will hold urine. As soon as you jump into the water the entire swim suit gets wet anyway,....think about it.

Hope this helps.

I have been given samples of Swimmates from Tranquility in both medium and large and I expect the smaller of the two will be better because it will be tighter to my skin. I plan to experiment in the bath tub with a wet Swimmate on and will report on my results. I suspect the severity of your UIC will have an affect on your success with any brand you try, but I am betting there is a product that is more effective than others. It may be that we all have to figure out what works best on an individual basis.

I've also done what rope_wrench said with the so secure. In spite of them having elastic seals, water will still get into them thanks to the concave shape at the small of your back. Don't bother trying to use a diaper or pad with them because of this. I too would just break the seal at the bottom elastics as I'm getting out (at the back of the leg where the water will run down your leg). Most people just assume you're adjusting your swim suit from a wedgie or what not, and don't give it a second thought.

Alternatively, I've found a reusable pocket diaper without the added diaper insert works good too. They will still have a light terry lining that is able to absorb a little, but not much. Again, break the seal at a leg as you get out, and it should be able to temporarily contain any light peeing for 10 or 20 minutes there after.

Other than this, there is no real way to contain your pee while not also containing the water in the pools too. Parents can also testify those toddler swim diapers do absolutely nothing for stopping leaks after they get out of the water, and are for bowel containment more than anything.

And fyi, you will be normally dripping water as you go from one ride to another. If you do start leaking pee then the water dripping will help mask this. Just stay well hydrated so you pee won't be so yellow and easily spotted. Also, there is no such thing as a chemical additive that turns blue when you pee in the water. Kids, and even adults pee in that water way more than you might think. This is why they have pool chemicals to neutralize and re-balance the water, not to mention big filters too.

Thanks for all the great responses. I think I will purchase a SOSecure swim diaper. I have learned that being dehydrated is more noticeable because of smell then staying hydrated and having to change.

Army,

I use the SoSecure and agree with what others have said. It may be your best option.

Lol, it's interesting we've all separately come to the same conclusion.

Try Amazon. Also, several adult diaper vendors carry them.
