Hello all, i am back on here once again. My incontinence has gotten much worse. I did get full time treatment for ptsd for a year. Did it help, I dont think so. I think it has gotten worse as well. Everyday I am still learning new things about living with incobtinence, and how to manage it. Diapers sure do help but i often wonder if using them has caused me to lose so much control.

If your incontinence has become worse, my first guess would be it is most likely caused by the meds your taking for PTSD. Some of those meds can cause incontinence. Regardless, you need to let your primary care doc know your situation.

Hope this helps.

I agree, meds have all sorts of nasty side-effects. Of course your PTSD might contribute to the incontinence, but most likely it's the medication, so it's a good idea to contact your doctor. I doubt wearing diapers has affected your continence. I once read a study which showed that people with intellectual disabilities, dementia or other such issues may be more prone to become incontinent (have more episodes) if they are diapered, but I don't think this is true for people with say, problems of the mental health.

All the best to you, and keep on the battle for a healthier & active future.

Thank you for the insight. I am not currently taking meds, I was on more than any one human should be. A lot of bad side effects, I found i do better with natruall herbs. I have talked to primary care, they have refered me to various doctors with no results. I just know when the ptsd gets ramped up the incontinence goes to no control. Once again thank you for talking with me, it is nice to be able to speak freely of these matters.

Hello there. I'm in a similar boat with PTSD and incontinence, though meds have helped me greatly manage my condition. (In regards to PTSD, not so much with incontinence sadly). I'm sorry you were unable to get good results from medication. I find it strange how mental disorders such as PTSD (and of course the medication for them) can affect incontinence in such a way, and while there is some research as to the how, I don't think its been researched extensively enough, at least from the data I was able to gather online.

I don't think using diapers has caused you to lose control at all. The habits you have built from wearing protection are ones that can be easily reversed.

Medications do have lingering side effects as well, from my experience. I know a lot of guys who took SSRI's who never got their sexual functions or libido back afterwards, though not many who actually dealt with incontinence issues from taking them.

Great news about the antidepressants. Just been prescribed them. Beginning to wonder what else in my body will go south next. I guess it boils down to the lesser of two evils.

I know anti depresients are known to cause incontinence, but maybe it could help yours by curbing the depression!

Well 3 meds later for my anxiety/depression and on the second one my sex drive took a dive. The first one caused my Restless Leg Syndrome to go into overdrive. The second one had an unpleasant side affects causing dizziness, and lack of libido. Of course the doctor said without going into much detail it is known for one sexual side affect, but not total loss of libido. I find it strangely coincidental that soon after taking it my libido basically crashed dived into the ocean and went to test depth of a submarine. I still complained to the doctor that even after 2 weeks I had not gotten it back. His next step was to test my testosterone which came back very low but within standards. My PCM said "He would prescribed testosterone patches." but the psych of course said the levels were fine. Go figure. Luckily, my PCM is doing something. I hope Matthew I am not one of those guys you know that never got it back. I thought all my issues were bad, but throw on lack of libido and it becomes very frustrating.

Years ago my libido once took a crash dive like yours did (I don't remember which med it was, but it was for incontinence). I never got it back either, and my testosterone has been extremely low ever since too.

I tried the shots, but going in to see my doc every month got tiring, the patches did even less for me, and the gel was horribly sticky and was made with so much alcohol it would give me a headache/ high.

Eventually I just had to learn to accept it. I did find I wasn't as quick to get angry any more, and had better concentration too, which has been nice. My sex life, not so much.

Thanks Brian. That doesn't sound encouraging.
