As a coworker once said, "some people should not be in customer service." On the other hand I went into a convince store once needing a toilet. The clerk said they did not have public restroom. I must have looked desperate. The clerk took me in the back and directed me to the employee restroom. I wrote the company and without going into the details complimented the employee.

That has been my sentiment as well. I'm happy to hear that you had a good experience with the clerk and that you took the time and effort to acknowledge him/her. Thanks for being that kind of person, and thanks for posting the article.

Yeah it's amazing how inconsiderate some people can be, even outright rude. It's tough not letting them get to you, but just know they are in the minority on that part- not us.

Yes it is amazing how unfeeling people can be. I shop where I feel I am treated well and refrain from shopping in other places. In the competitive world today we all have choices. In the case of this convenience store, I received a nice email back from the district manager thanking me for complementing the clerk. The manager states this clerk regularly receives complements, so I was not a one off. I am in this area frequently and now shop there regularly. The clerk I mentioned said she had received a raise as a result of mine and other complements. I thanked her again for her help.

I was kind of embarrassed to discuss the subject. When I wrote the email complementing her, I kept it general saying she was friendly and very helpful. (This was very true.) I also did not want to cause the clerk any problems by disclosing that she had let me in the back of the store.
