Sometimes I have to wear my protection (diaper) longer than usual, like when on business trips and so on.

It can be really troublesome / strressfull as sometimes I sort of start smellling myself, which makes me wonder just how long others have been able to smell me?

I know drinking lot's of water or just adding more water helps dilute the urine so the smell decreased, but when suffering OAB/urge incon, increased fluid intake also elevates the problem, since you will pee more, I do!

Anyway in these situations I'm not always able to change and therefore have to rely on more absorbent premium diapers - which although they hold a lot, they also tend to smell bad after a while, making me feel bad about myself as the smell really can be disturbing sometimes.

So I wonder whether there are any deodorizing options which discreetly can be sprayed into a wet diaper and reduce / eliminate the smell of wet diaper for another few hours until you can go change in more private surroundings, and off course also be safe for the skin?

I have tried babypowder (Johnsons & johnsons) which does help somewhat, but for extended wear even powder doesn't help.

Here is my two cents

1.Certain diapers do not cover scent well. For example for me, despite having a great fit, Abena will start to stink in relatively short order whereas confidry take close to 6 hours to start to stink.

2. Plastic pants adds a layer to odor elimination, even PUL ones that breathe.

3. Compression shorts keep the diaper against you so there are fewer gaps for the odor to escape.

4. Using baby diapers as stuffers can also help to prolong your main diaper and help with the odor as they typically have better odor protection. Keeping one or two baby diapers in your pocket can mean being able to go to the restroom, pull the used one out and replace it. It is very easy to throw away a baby diaper compared to an adult diaper.

These help me when I am in your situation, but your experience may vary.

jms,

I don't know any sure-fire way of countering personal diaper odor. I was able to increase my water consumption which you cannot do. Most personal deodorant sprays for incontinence are intended to deodorize a room, not be sprayed on the diaper or your skin.

However, these may help -
Take vitamin C
Drink Cranberry Juice
Consider a personal deodorant such as Nullo tablets
Mask at least some of the odor with a perfumed skin lotion, cologne, etc.

I agree with Tarlton's suggestion of vinyl plastic instead of PUL pants and wearing compression pants.

Good luck!

A LOT of vitamin C or Cranberry will not mask your pee smell. In fact it will make you pee smell even stronger. Increasing you water intake will dilute the smell greatly, but will also increase how much you will wet overall. Like you mentioned, added baby powder will help a little as well. Plastic or Pull pants over your disposable will help greatly to contain the smell, but only to a point. Nullo will help counter a poop smell, but does nothing for urine. As the others mentioned, baby diapers will help extend your diapers use as you can throw out a soaked baby diaper booster and the other diaper will only be slightly wet. That soaked baby diaper booster will take a lot of the smell with them too.

Thanks for the advises.

I'll get me a few pairs of vinyl pants, do you have recommendations for these and where to get some which are good? I'll also tryout the suggestion with babydiapers as stuffers....

There are several places that sell vinyl pants often referred to as plastic pants on the web. I would recommend taking a look at either Fetware, or Babykins. I think they have the best pants on the market at "reasonable" prices. Anther place to you can look at is Adult Cloth Diaper Company. I personally like the vinyl pants sold by Fetware, or Babykins the best. I think these use a different type of elastic in the waist, and legs and it doesn't seem to have a binding feel to it. Just my thoughts,...everyone will have their likes, and dislikes.

I have provided links below to each of the three companies reference in the above.

Hope this helps.

I'm personally a fan of the gary activewear pul pants from adultclothdiaper.com

The elastic waist and leg bands dig into my skin too much with normal plastic pants, the bands also wick urine a lot when they get a little wet. The activewear pul pants have the waterproof material wrapped over the elastics so it won't dig into your skin or wick pee.

I am a fan of the Vinyl pants from Kins, the plastic is not comfortable at all, and becomes brittle/stiff much sooner then vinyl. Nice to see the Gray PUL pants have come down in price since I last looked at that site, if I can find a Canadian vendor, I may try those next time I need replacements. :) Puffy

JMS,
One of the first pieces of advice I was given by my doctor is if you can smell it, you need to change. But for me my nose has become hyper sensitive to the smell of urine. Wearing a diaper to long ,no matter if its not full, isn't good on your skin and allows unwanted bacteria to grow. I know we all push it sometime to get things done before we have to change and finding a good place to change can be a bummer. I have found changing is the best thing for you, clean skin, dry cloth and no smell.

That one I'm aware of, and do change several times a day as I don't like feeling wet for a prolonged time, sometimes I can get caught up doing something and then suddenly realizes, that I'm pretty wet - my wife also helps in regard to smell, as she is hypersensitive to any smell....in a good way, so she usually tells me if she senses anything that I should go change my diaper, funny thing, I have become more comfortable using the name "diaper", and also in accepting that they help me lot to maintain quality of life, so I must admit, that they have become a positive thing in my life despite my initial thought of them, anyways.

I have now had a chance of trying out the suggestions of plastic pants and babydiapers as stuffers together with a premium diaper in a safe environment, so that when next time I have to rely on extensive wearing time before I can change e.g. when out visiting business relations I have my setup ready including a bodystocking which I found out was not only handy to keep things in place but also a neccesity - although I would say that the plastic pants on top do cause a lot of sweating...I need the ones with wide crotch to be more comfortable, I tried a pair with "normal" crotch width, and they did cause some chafing and wasn't comfortable since the legs of the pants couldn't come far enough down to help counter chafing.
