Where do you keep your incontinence pads/diapers

Sun Mar 06, 2016 5:50 pm

I always buy in bulk because I get anxious about running out of diapers and it's considerably cheaper that way, I live in supported housing because I have other mental health disabilities other than being incontinent. I share a house with three other people with disabilities, they only know a little bit about my incontinence issues, I'm really discreet! But it's hard when ordering pads because they always arrive in huge boxes and it's kinda hard to explain what's in them, I come out with it's a flat pack bookcase multiple times now.

Also I find it difficult getting rid off the boxes my diapers come in because they have the manufactures name and the absorbency and size printed on the box which I'm fearful they might notice in the bin. And I have nowhere to put them in my room. They are in the corner of my room stacked up so if anybody came in my room they are on view. I currently have 23 bags and they are hard to hide.

How do you hid your pads/diapers?

Bulk boxes I store in the attic and individual bags I put in the bedroom closet. I always keep 3-4 on top of my dresser so I can grab one to change quickly. My wife and I share a drawer in the bathroom where she keeps her things and I have a coupe diapers so I can change quickly if I'm in there. I also keep a foley tray on my dresser, so she doesn't have to rifle through the Rubbermaid bin with all the urological supplies in it. I can change myself, but she always does the catheterizations since she is an ER nurse amd she's good at it, and quick too.

I have a very large walk-in closet. I have my diapers next to my underwear folded out for singles, and in bulk at the far end of the closet, hidden by shirts.

Better than how to hide your diaper shipments, how about just telling your room mates they are boxes of diapers? Yeah I know this is an embarrassing thing to face at first (trust me it is). Seriously though, your room mates likely at least suspect, if not already know.

It's obvious this is causing you a lot of stress, and when you finally tell them, that stress will disappear. Besides, nit only do they have disabilities of their own, but if you keep your diaper supply out in the open then they have probably already noticed.

Baby Brian - That sounds like good advice, I know they already know because just before Christmas I left a used Pad in the bathroom when I was intoxicated and one of my housemates told the support staff who removed it from the bathroom, the staff didn't mention anything but it got around the supported living complex that there was a used nappy/diaper in the bathroom so I don't think they'll be that understanding when they go around telling all and sunday. I have made sure I don't use the same mistake twice.

If you can explain your situation to your housemates in a matter-of-fact manner, the burden of hiding your supplies will be lifted, which should be welcome. I keep my clean washables on top of the blanket chest at the foot of our bed; the hamper for used diapers is beside the shower in our bathroom. My family lived with me through some six urological procedures, so there was never any way for me to hide my incontinence. I suspect that your housemates already know, or suspect, that you are incontinent. Enlisting their support, especially if they too have disabilities, should not be too difficult. Good luck and report back. This seems to be a lively topic recently.

I bought an armoire (standing closet) that I store my diapers in and it just looks like regular furniture! :8

I live alone and no one ever comes over so I just keep my diapers in the box that they come in and stack them next to my couch (I live in a studio so have very little room).
If someone does come over it just looks like I have boxes and am too lazy to unpack.

I keep my diapers in my bedroom closet.

CoughCough, I agree with the others who suggested telling your housemates about your incontinence issues. Over the years, I've become much less worried about other people finding out about my own issues and have found that other people who find out treat the discovery in a matter-of-fact way. Incontinence is a medical problem, and using diapers is no more shameful than wearing glasses or using a cane, hearing aid or wheelchair.
