The nerves rum up the entire length of your spine. In my case, my spine was jarred at my L5 during a bad car wreck. This caused spinal shock and bruising which instantly caused my urge incontinence and set me up for also developing a neurogenic blockage which slowly worsened over the years. Years later I also herniated my disk which exasperated my problems even further.

The nerve ending cluster responsible for normal bladder and sphincter function (sacral nerve) doesn't have to get damaged its self. Many people, like me, can get their nerves crossed or shorted out which lead to the incontinence. It's surprisingly common even when (again like me) there is no other apparent nerve damage.

Last night I wet the bed, the 1st time in several months. My wife wasn't amused. I wasn't wearing protection and unfortunately we had forgotten to put a bedpad under the sheets the last time we changed them. For a while this morning I was dribbling. Not a lot of urine but had several instances of this. I had no caffeine or alcohol yesterday.

Thinks are fine now however.

G, I'm sorry that you had a wet night on Tuesday - were you dry last night?

Yes, last night was fine. I did get up once to use the can around 2 a.m.

Good to hear. Since you were able to wake up in time last night, I'm guessing that you were exhausted on Tues. night and slept a bit too soundly.

Could be. This is what I hate though, the sporadic nature of things. If I was sleeping too soundly and wetting every night, I would wear protection without bitching about it (maybe!). Wetting accidents are rare and I hate wearing protection that I don't need to wear 95%+ of the time.

If I go to the doctor what do I say and what good will it do? What's the likelihood of an talented doctor being able to tell me what's wrong when the problem occurs so sporadically? It's like computer problems (I'm a systems analyst): give me steps to reproduce the problem and if I can reproduce the problem I'll look into it. If something was seriously wrong wouldn't the issue be more consistent and less sporadic?

Over the last year and a half, I've logged in an app every morning. I'm wet about 60 percent of the time. Sometimes it's every night, sometimes every other, sometimes not for 2 weeks at a time.

At this point, I just always wear a diaper and don't really worry about it. Honestly, the sensation of a full bladder doesn't wake me up. At this point, if something else wakes me up, I have about a 50% chance of still being dry at the time, and usually I usually don't bother getting up then to go. It's too much of a hassle, and even if I get, use the toilet, rediaper, and go back to bed, there is still a fair chance I'll be wet by morning. The only time I get up to use the toilet at night anymore, is if I'm already out of bed for some other reason (my son wakes up, or I need to close a window, or something), otherwise I just pee, or go back to sleep and let nature take it's course.

I believe in over protecting, its better to always have a dry bed and pants, than a soaked bed and pants. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble, but great planning will pay off in the long run. hang in there you will get it figured out.
