I have a sleep disorder that means my REM sleep and sleep cycle are not quite right.

Had years of treatment for this and the doctors pretty much have done all they can. My condition has improved significantly but the fact I get up 4-6 times a night to pee + woken by bladder spams is still disrupting my sleep and causing problems.
If I don’t get enough sleep my OAB and bladder plays up due to stress but my OAB affecting my sleep….so bit of a circle.
Any suggestions?

Wow, this is a real challenge. I was getting up 3-4 times a night to urinate, mostly due to over active bladder. When I finally gave in and started wearing diapers at night I am sleeping so much better. I still wake up, but can use the diaper and go right back to sleep. I am so much more rested when I don't have to get out of bed to walk to the bathroom. I don't seem to have a sleep disorder other than my bladder being full. Let us know how you are doing.

untamedbladder, 4-6 times a night is really rough! :( I have an incontinent friend with a sleep disorder like yours.

I was getting up 3 or 4 times and sometimes wetting the bed. However, like Texan, now that I always wear diapers for the bedwetting I am getting the best sleep I have had in years.:D Sometimes I wake up slightly and realize that I am peeing. At other times I wake up realizing that I have to pee and then immediately fall back asleep. As I am wearing pinned cloth diapers with a booster and the requisite plastic pants on top, it is impractical even to consider getting up, removing the cloth diaper, peeing in the toilet, and then trying to pin it back on again.. I absolutely could not fall back asleep after all that. I guess that aspect qualifies as functional incontinence.

While I cannot recommend any medical solution for your problem, it would appear that wearing a good quality diaper at night would enable you to get more sleep.

I too get bladder spasms nearly every night, sometimes several times in a night. Before my surgery, these were painful; now, they scarcely disturb my sleep. The combination of heavy nighttime protection plus surgery has given me restful sleep and made living so much easier.

I will try the using the diaper.

Somethings "wrong" and "lazy" about doing that when I am still continent at night. But I will try for a month.
If my sleep improves it will be worth it, any improvemnet will be.

My worry though is I lose any night time control :?

That may not be the only answer. I wake up 3 or 4 times a night to urinate.
My Urologist has proscribed for me condom catheters and 2 liter urine bag. And after about a year of this I find that A) I still have difficulty urinating while lying down. B) I STILL find it strange to urinate while lying in bed. Just seems "odd". Actually became used to the tubing and condom catheter itself rather quickly. Hardly notice that it is there. So this is still a work in progress for me. Still searching for a way to sleep through the night.

Like several of the other people who have replied, I have an overactive bladder and urge incontinence. I too have found that wearing a diaper and using it as needed during the night improves the restfulness of my nights' sleep.

I think you might find tips on this on some ABDL sites. Strange to have to take their advice on such an issue, but you won't be the first. Sometimes you just have to do what works for you, even if it doesn't sound right.

Guess I will keep it up for a month.

The ABDL sites are a good read if only they knew what it is actually like to wear 24/7 for real. I suffer urge issues and I had many accidents when asleep. Wearing diapers has been great I too was nervous at first but have not looked back since. I wake up like any normal person having had a great night sleep and I feel so much better during the day. Life is full of stress wearing diapers at night has taken one problem off the list.

All the best with your nighttime issues.
