The Christmas "Accident"

My biggest fear, the Christmas bowel “accident,” happened with all the family there around me.

Normally it would have been highly unlikely to happen, but, family was coming over extra early for breakfast, and, to save time, I decided to forgo my usual morning preemptive enema and just insert a fast-acting bisacodyl laxative suppository. I was a little concerned when the results seemed less effective than expected.

We had just finished opening gifts when, OMG, out of nowhere, it happened. I cannot describe how very, very upset I felt at that moment about having a fecal accident in a social situation. I gave my wife a silent agreed-upon hand signal as to what had happened and immediately but quietly disappeared to clean up and change.

After changing I felt very embarrassed about rejoining the family gathering. However, when I returned, to my great surprise and relief, it was apparent that, with the confusion of multiple family conversations and excited granddaughters and dog making noise and attracting attention, no one had even noticed that I was gone! Truly amazing. Despite all my fears, no one had noticed - what a relief! For me that was a little Christmas blessing.

Sorry for the TMI, but, with incontinence, little blessings can come in many ways and often things are not as bad as they seem. I hope your Christmas was without the excitement.

Sorry to hear you had a accident, it always seems to happen to us when we allow our self's to get out of what we have set as our plans to manage our incontinent issues. I'm glad you were able to slip out and get cleaned up. Yes I would say it was a blessing !!

Add my concern, and relief, at your Christmas bowel accident and your successful management. There is no substitute for management skill, hard earned as it will always be. Kudos to you on your mastery of the skills we all need.

Thanks for all of your supportive comments guys. It amazes me that this continues to be a learning experience - if not for the physical aspects of managing our incontinence then for how we emotionally react to and handle it.

Have you ever seen the "invisible gorilla test". This goes a long way in explaining why at least.

I watched the video, got the number of passes right AND saw the gorilla... but I was also watching for it. Then again, the Army trained me to be highly observant and my PTSD makes me hyper vigilant so I'd probably have noticed anyway.
