Well, the first thing is that the nurse was lovely. She put me at ease quickly, and didn't make me feel bad for wearing diapers (nappies). Apparently the maximum absorbency they supply is Tena Maxi, but with them I have to change after every voiding, and considering in an average day for me, I can easily void 10+ times a day, these don't work for me. I would have had to continue spending a fortune, personally supplying half of my supplies. They only allow you 4 free a day, so they decided it was ok to order me the Tena Ultima, which is what I've been buying myself for the last few months. I had a bladder scan, which was 1 hour post void and she said it was 200ml, and she is going to do an empty bladder scan on Friday. I asked about self catheterising, but because I have no urge feelings, and don't know I need to go until already going, and the fact that there is no consistent pattern as to when I pee, she said that she thinks the best option for me would be having a permenant catheter with leg bag. She was appalled at how long it had taken for me to get the appointment, and was very sympathetic when I was saying how anxious I get, about going out of the house in case of leaks.

All in all I think it was a positive appointment, now I just have to wait and see what Friday brings.

Cheryl,

It sounds as if they are addressing your needs.

You said "permanent" catheter? Do you mean a Foley? Wow. Why didn't they prescribe intermittent catheterization?

I am surprised as your residual is less than mine. I see my urologist on Thursday for my follow-up to the urodynamics tests and am a little anxious to hear what he will prescribe.

Good luck with your Friday appointment.

I'm not exactly sure, her words were "I think the best option for you would be a permenant catheter with a leg bag, as there seems to be no pattern as to when you void, nor do you get any urge feelings". So whether foley or suprapubic I'm not sure...

Good luck with your appointment!
