I got word from my mom and dad that they booked a flight out to see them for tomorrow!
While this makes me very happy (I haven't seen them since Christmas), it makes me very nervous.
My bag is packed (and my god does supplies for a week take up a lot of room!)
I will have to get a pat down since I cant go through the metal detector or scanner because of all of the metal in my leg.
I'm so so scared.
Make me feel better?

Justej,

I wouldn't stress too much over it. Read the whitepages http://www.incontinentsupport.org/Intro ... iapers.pdf JD put a lot of information in there about traveling. Since you say you will have to get a pat down, I would recommend printing out this card https://www.tsa.gov/sites/default/files ... _cards.pdf That way you could show it to the TSA agent without saying your condition out loud. I have not personal had a pat down since I started having this condition, but everything I have read has said don't worry about it. They encounter this more often then you think.

I would echo what batman stated. JD's primer has some excellent tips and expectations. And the TSA card can't hurt. With proper preparation and the right state of mind, you should be just fine. Having to undergo a number of TSA pat downs, it's all worked out fairly well.

Well everything went just fine.
They used a wheelchair to get me through tsa and did a pat down.
I told the agent that I'm incontinent and was wearing diapers and she didn't seem to be phased.
I needed to change on the plane and that was a struggle. I dribbled while putting on a new one so just wiped my legs with wipes.
So I worried about nothing.
:-)

justej,

Congratulations on getting through the trip. Now you are better prepared for the next time and it will not be so stress-inducing.

Glad the flight out went well. Usually nobody will make a big deal about it unless you do. Also, any of the modern scanners won't care about the metal inside your body if it is medical related. Your doctor should also have given you a card if the metal is the type that the metal detectors pick up.

Enjoy your stay and return trip.

seattle doug,
