Yes your right in someways it is an adventure. And often times you are taking a chance on what your getting. But the way I look at it if you get it cheap enough it's worth the risk. But yes I understand what your saying Paul. And maybe I shouldn't direct people there either. By doing that I'm creating more competition for myself :) ...............Sandy

Having been urinary inco since birth I have been there and done that when it comes to cloth diapers and the ridiculous prices for some of them and the poor performance many of them have. For sake of economy and performance this is how I handle it, I watch the Target ads for there sales on flannel sheet sets. I buy the king size and my wife cuts them up and hems the edges. I get four large diapers per set plus the king size pillow cases make a great stuffer. The cost for four diapers is around $16.00 I can fold and layer them to suit me and I am a side sleeper so I fold and pin them so there is a lot of overlap on the sides to give me plenty of absorbency below me when I sleep. I almost never have leaks with a proper fitting pair of plastic pants over the diaper and I am comfortable and protected the whole night. The trick to staying dry in bed is to have enough diaper to handle the fluid loss and especially having a proper fitting pair of plastic pants. Too small or tight fitting is a guaranteed leak,
The more room the better as long as the elastics are snug.

Hi Boomer!
Thanks so much for the post! I really don't know why a lot of people don't do what you do and make their own diapers. It really sounds so simpile! I once tried this by buying some diaper flannel at a fabric store. They worked great, too. If anybody has a sewing machine, it should be easy and save all kinds of money!! ...................Paul Martin

You're right, Paul, and I've sewn diapers back mostly when there were not a lot of good ones available.

Yes, you do need a sewing machine and no, it's not hard, but it is time consuming and also assumes for the most part that you are using pin on diapers which may not be the most common cloth diaper any more!

The contour diapers with Velcro (tmreg) fastening are perhaps more common and certainly a lot easier to manage than pins. I'm old fashioned, I guess, and being used to pins, I persist with prefolds. But having found great prefolds at Adult Cloth Diaper, I've no incentive to make my own. With care, I get years of wear out of good prefolds which offsets the initial high cost.

Joe really hit the nail on the head. Cost? if you bought 10 good gauze night thickness diapers - say from ACD the cost is about $220.00 If you use only cloth diapers and go through 4 a day that is a savings of about $4.00 per day for good disposabes. Which you also have to order and have delivered and all that hassel. $4.00 X 365 days = $1,460.00 savings a year. Using cloth diapers ONLY at night still saves $365.00 and not having to order 365 diapers. And the cloth diapers last years. It really is a no brainer if you can adjust to using cloth diapers. Papa

All the cloth diaper users will agree... sleeping at night using cloth is the only way to ensure a good nights sleep.

I just got back last week from making an unexpected trip to Albuquerque for a week. Since there's no washer readily availaable, I was forced to wear disposables. I do pull on a pair of a cloth pull-up with a pair of plastic pants over that to catch any leaks that will happen.
Since I'm not in my own bed, dispite using a waterproof pad under me, I still worry that I'll leak. So I'm awake every hour checking my diaper. I have to get up to change during the night where I don't with cloth.
You're right Hobiecatguy, for a good night's sleep, use a cloth diaper!

Hi Chuck,
I,ve been using All Together Diaper's gauze diaper for two years now. I've yet to find a more soft and absorbant diaper anywhere. Good diaper! .......................Paul Martin
