Can any one tell me where I can buy good fitting rubber pants. I have been using plastic pants over my cloth diapers, and like many of you am having a problem with them splitting at the legs. I have been told that the rubber pants are more durable so I would like to give them a try.

Contact AC Medical Supply in Ontario at ACMS@ACMEDI.com.
They have several offerings at one half the cost of most of those in the USA. Delivery takes longer, but if you order several pairs, the cost is so low by comparison that the delay is worth it. :D

Good luch -- B

Hi David,

I suspect you are wearing plastic pants that are too small. Sizes for plastic pants are all over the place, but let's just consider Gary and Comco pants for sake of argument. In my case, I can easily wear a Medium Gary pant but I suspect I would find I would experience the splitting you are having. So I do not wear the medium size. I typically wear the Large Gary pants and even wear Extra Large for over night wear over my cloth diapers.

I would also suggest you try Comco pants since they are made of a thicker and somewhat tougher vinyl sheet. In my case, the Large Comcos are equivalent to Gary Extra large and so I wear a Medium Comco which is equivalent to the Large Gary.

I'd suggest you start with trying the next larger size and if you are not wearing Gary or Comco, than by all means you owe it to yourself to try them.

Rubber pants, IMO, are not more durable than vinyl. Folks who think they might be, in this case of side splitting, might be relying on the fact that rubber can stretch some whereas vinyl has no stretch. But rubber pants or plastic pants should be sized roomy enough so the pants material is never tight over the diaper or over your skin. There should always be some "ballooning" of the rubber or plastic, with the leg and waist bands then pulling the material in to your body. This extra material also facilitates tucking the leg and waist bands into your diaper to really guard against leaks.

Rubber pants, again IMO, are less comfortable for walking around....rubber always tends to chafe between the legs whereas vinyl will slip.

If you must try rubber pants, be aware there is a lot of junk out there. For "decent" rubber pants, try Kins (aka Babykins) rubber pants. For top of the line rubber pants, try "Time For A Change" but be prepared to pay more than $25 for one pair of rubber pants.

And may I close by suggesting you check out the Primer chapter on Waterproof Pants, you just might see something there to help you make up your mind; but bottom line is, properly sized, quality plastic pants do not split out at the legs.

David (and any other interested readers....)

We often tend to make references to suppliers when we answer posts and often fail to point you to our links page. We don't want to leave you hanging, thinking you must then do your own searching to come up with these suppliers and sites we mention. If I were to reference a site that was not on our links page, then I would include the URL in the body of the posting.

In the case of Time For a Change, which I mentioned to you in the previous post, it takes a bit of work getting to the rubber pants so let me expound a bit. Click on their link on our links page and you go to the home page, featuring what ever the special promotion is. See the left side menu and click on Plastic Pants....yep, you won't see any mention of rubber pants. When that page opens, usually with the banner Softies Plastic pants over a picture of the plastic pants, look above the banner at the small horizontal menu items and, lo and behold, you will "rubber pants" as an item. Click that and finally you get to the rubber pants page. Now for sizing; note if you are a 36 to 38 waist, you would think you would want to get the "Large 36-40" but I would recommend you get the "Extra Large 40-44" and I think you will be glad you went with the larger size.
