I may have to go into a Nursing Home for three weeks for therapy. Will they put a diaper on me?

If you have continence issues at all, then they will use what you normally do, be it a catheter, indwelling or external, or a brief or pull-up. You use an external cath now don't you, if I recall? Is your stay for the entire 3 weeks, or just visits each day for therapy? They will most likely go with whatever way you cope, it's what they do daily for almost everyone they care for anyhow. Puffy

Hi Puffy,
Right now I have a Foley catheter. My last Urodynamic test didn't go very well and pressure was building up. I had 1500cc of water in me. I peed about 300cc and she took 1100cc out of me. My Urologist saw me and asked urethra Foley or SPC. I didn't choose the SPC!!!I'm doing real good now.
Thanks for the info. I just use a pullup in case I get a leak. When I was in diapers I never pood in it so now I will, I guess!
I am disability-ed and I have Medicare Part A, Not eligible for Part B so I had an operation on my shoulder and I need therapy and the only way is a Hospital for 4 days and into a Nursing Home for 20 days.

Well, the foley should not be any problem for them to manage with you, and if you never had any BM issues before, then I can't imagine the staff will not be able to help you manage that side of life with a regular bowel care routine, as most all nursing homes have in place to avoid any problems later in the day. Hope the rehab goes well for you, I tore my rotator cuff in multiple spots 10 or so years ago, not bad enough to warrant surgery and it never fully recovered, makes for a sore shoulder if I over use it or sleep on it too long, take care, :) Puffy

Puffy,
I hope it takes care of it. For i don't know how many years I went only able to raise my arm up past my waist. I had a lot of scar tissue and bone scars taken out. I can get the arm all the way up, but no strength. I have muscles I haven't used for a long time. I need electro therapy and muscle stimulation.
It looks like for $1250 I can stay in a Hospital for 60 days! The Nursing Home will be free after a 4 day Hospital stay. I can stay 20 days only. So it will be up to my Doctor!

Many nursing homes [and hospitals] actually have the policy of diapering anyone who needs help getting to the toilet for accident prevention, particularly if they are older or somewhat incontinent. This is supposed to just in case of accidents but in real life nurses take advantage of this to avoid helping people to the bathroom or bringing a bed pan at times. I once witnessed this while visiting an uncle. An old lady asked a nurse for help going to the bathroom & was answered there is no time now you have a diaper.
