New Here.....

Back in January I posted on some incontinence support boards regarding UTI's accompanied by incontinence, but have yet to read anything of much help. In short: I am a 24 year old female and 8.2 yrs in remission from cancer. I was also a bedwetter from ages 8 to about 12. The chemotherapy agents I took likely wreaked havoc on my bladder and I am now highly susceptible to UTI's. In December I had a bad UTI that lasted until the beginning of February( over the years I have developed allergies and resistances to many antibiotics), and for the first time I also experienced 'temporary' incontinence. It started as very light leaks throughout the day and night, but after two weeks progressed to a much larger problem, even outlasting the UTI by about a week, but by that time I was mainly incontinent at night.

1 week ago I was doing some laundry and when the machine went on I heard the water gush and my bladder completely emptied itself. The following night and the night after I wet the bed, and have had some light to moderate problems during the day. I am going to the doctor tomorrow to see if I have an infection, its probably a safe bet that I do, but my growing concern has been that what my doctors (regular GP and 2 specialists, and a call to my onco) keep telling me is 'temporary,' is not really that temporary. Already I have spent 3 out of the past 4.5 months incontinent, and as of a few days ago I have resumed using protection full time. Aside from this being a major lifestyle disturbance for a grad student, it actually seems that I am leading the life of someone who is incontinent ( I guess one could say that I am?). Just really having a difficult time sorting fears and realities out etc..

How has incontinence 'started' for any of you veterans? Has it just switched on? or has it been 'temporary' but not so much? My pattern seems different from many things I have read, so looking for any similar experience or plain old advice...Thanks,

Rachel

I'm sorry to hear of your problems but congratulations on your remission. I understand how you feel. I have Bipolar Disorder. My incontinence is caused by my psychiatric medications. I have to choose between being depressed or psychotic and incontinent. I have been hospitalized 8x and wear diapers 24/7. Good luck with your UTI. You are not alone.
