Has anyone had good/bad experiences wearing diapers/pins/plastic pants thru the airport in light of all the new security?
Though I have always managed to avoid accidents when I have traveled, mostly by moderating food and drink before flying, it would be so much easier to wear diapers without the anxiety and fear of being pulled aside by security.
I had a friend of mine who actually worked for airport security and I had hoped I might glean some information from him without arising suspicion, but never really had that opportunity.

I always wear a nighttime disposable when traveling. They are more easily disposed of, they hold more than regular disposables, and can be thrown away. I have never had a problem and always go just before getting on the plane or at least make an attempt. I cannot tell you about travel with cloth diapers and pins, but would assume that if your are honest with the airport security and ask for a search by wand rather than a walk thru, they would respect you honesty and not even be surprised by your request. Good Luck.

Robbie,
I have found that the screening machines vary from airport to airport. I once got by going through one with a pen knife in my pocket. On the way back through another airport it caught it.
Diaper pins are so small you might get by. Like previously said, if it were to go off, let them wand you and explain what you're wearing. ..........Paul Martin

I am a 2 million mile traveler. I'm in and out of airports every week and I've never had a problem traveling wearing diapers or with diapers in my bags. Though, I've never traveled with cloth (too much hassle for me), I can't imagine why the diaper pins would set off the detector. The amount of metal is less than a belt buckle or zipper or clasp, etc...

Even if it does go off, just remain calm, comply with what they are asking you to do. In most cases, I've found airport security to be highly professional (but not necessarily friendly). Let them know what's going on with you and be up front and kind!

Good luck!

I set the metal dectector off at my local court house and I think it was due to my metal diaper pins. The deputies asked me to step back through the detector which again went off. They asked me to lift my pant legs so they could see if my shoes had any metal. When I did this they let me pass even though there is no visible metal on my shoes (no metal on them that I could find). The only other metal I had on me was the zipper in my pants. I have made visits to the courthouse since then wearing a disposable and the same shoes and have not set the alarm off. When I fly I wear a disposable.

I have not been to an airport in years. I did altho have an encounter at the court house as well. When I went thru security the alarm did go off. It was the diaper pins that did it. I did get thru tho after explaining about the pins and the security using the wand.

Lately there has been a lot of talk about using full body scanners at airport security, so I did a little web research. I was appalled by the detail of the images! The technology used is designed to 'see' through clothing using very low intensity xrays. I expect it will see through a dry diaper, but the moisture in a wet one will be obvious.

I don't need to travel by air much anymore, but when I do use disposables to avoid the embarrassment of pins setting off the metal detectors. I don't like attention.

The guy that tried to blow up the plane on Christmas hid the explosives in his 'underwear'...that's just great. Call me paranoid, but I am really concerned about being stopped by security because of a damp diaper.

I don't fly much but if I need to explain my situation to security I will without hesitation. I would feel more secure knowing that security is doing their job.

Does anyone know if these new airport scanners will detect a disposable diaper? If there kinda like an x-ray machine it makes sense that it might show up.

I would think that it would show up as at least different which could cause security to take a second look and maybe ask questions. I would think that the material is much more dense and would show up as darker on an x-ray screen but I think that if someone were smuggling something under the diaper that would show up also.
