So I had an idea for a diaper cover that I wanted to run by everyone to get some feedback. My plan is to design something that fits like compression shorts (not quite as tight though) and uses modern advanced fabrics like PUL and odor controlling stretch fabric. The PUL would be placed in all the places leaks occur with the stretch fabric everywhere else. If I get things right it will prevent leaks, extend diaper life, reduce odors, and keep everything snug and comfortable.

So what do you all think?

Sounds very intersesting to me. I'm always looking for something different as long as it works. It would be really cool if you had a picture of what you're proposing. What is this "pul" material? is that some sort of poly-urethane? .............Paul Martin

PUL is a soft, pliable, cloth fabric that is coated with poly urethane. It is commonly used in medical product applications but more recently it has become the fabric of choice when making all in one diapers for children.

I want to be up front and honest with everyone by letting them know that I am not incontinent myself. I came across a story on a blog last January that detailed a very embarrassing situation for someone with incontinence. They had a sever leak in a very public setting and it really struck a cord with me. I had no idea that people were affected by this outside of nursing homes, I apologize for my ignorance. I felt bad reading the story and thought with today's modern materials there was no reason for the incident, however, it seems that products for incontinence are geared toward the bed ridden crowd and not to the smaller group of physically active people. I am now working on my MBA and the idea came to me to try and start a company that addresses the issues faced by this niche of people.

I have some rough sketches that I would be happy to send to you and if you would like to be part of a product focus group that would be great. I am currently working on the prototype and plan on working out a few bugs with it first and then moving onto a version of product for the focus group. I hope to have something to market early next summer. Eventually, I would like to have an entire line of products that meets the unique needs of the active incontinence community. However, not being incontinent myself, I need a lot of feedback and input.

It sounds like a really good idea. I certainly hope we could see them soon!

You're definitely right that adult diapers are geared to the bed-ridden. It's kind of frustrating, but I know that there are so many of us who are active and otherwise healthy adults. You'd think somebody in the industry would realize this.

Hi brittdave, check this new item just received from Bumkins - https://www.changingtimesdiaperco.com/p ... C-XL%2FXXL . Is the garment you are trying to design similar? This one is made with waterproof polyester and holds a pre-fold diaper in place under flaps.

Thanks for the link but that isn't really what I am shooting for. That cover looks like an adult version of a diaper for kids and from what I have read on various incontinence forums, I believe it misses the mark.

I am ready to build a company that designs products specifically for the active incontinent niche. If any of you have any ideas of what your biggest complaints are with current product offerings, let me know. Its time to address the needs of this segment.

You're on to something, here. The biggest problem with traditional plastic pants is they get stiff after a while and start cracking at the leg openings(ouch).
I have some pairs of nylon pants and they last a lot longer and stay comfortable. I think the material you're proposing to use is very similar to nylon. .................Paul Martin

What I meant by missing the mark was that it looks like a large version of something meant for a child and falls in line with the traditional thinking of what works for a child will work for an adult. It was an assumption, I know nothing about this particular product beyond what is on their website. I apologize if I was misleading in anyway with my post.

I agree, vinyl gets old and falls apart. I remember when I was younger that my little sisters vinyl pants never lasted long and mom always seemed to be picking up more of them at the store. Something made out of modern fabrics could really last a long time and if designed correctly solve some real problems.
